Nov 5th, 2009 at 3:00PM: If you were to steal 1,000 pieces of luggage, where would you keep it all? Wherever they shoved the bags, Keith Wilson King and Stacy Lynne Legg-King saw the police pull them out of their house one-by-one and stack them in the yard. The duo had been pinching luggage from the baggage carousels at the Phoenix airport, amassing an impressive collection of stolen goods ... so big the police couldn't ...

Aug 20th, 2009 at 1:30PM: Arthur Frommer, longtime travel book guru, posed a question about Arizona's "open carry" gun laws. In Arizona, Frommer found out, people can bring loaded guns to political rallies. That's what happened in Phoenix earlier this week when some of the protesters, who showed up outside the convention center where Barack Obama was speaking, visibly wielded guns--including an assault rifle. Such action ...

Jul 26th, 2009 at 12:00PM: The number of hotels defaulting on their loans surged 125 percent in May and June this year. Travel is down (no shit), which has an obvious effect on the top line. When there's no money coming in, it's hard to send cash out to meet some pretty hefty obligations. So, if none comes in, none can go out ... and defaults start to rise.
Some high-profile properties have defaulted already, including ...

Apr 18th, 2009 at 3:00PM: Who thought that Tennessee and New Hampshire would be some of the top towns in the country for art lovers. AmericanStyle magazine just issued the results of its twelfth annual arts destinations poll. Some spots are predictable. Others, like Chattanooga, will just blow your mind. This is the first year Chattanooga made the list, shooting all the way up to second in the mid-sized city category. If ...

Feb 23rd, 2009 at 12:30PM: Three Phoenix-based flight attendants are in the unusual position of defending themselves from pilot-instigated litigation. Of course, they deserve it. I mean, what would you do when people responsible for passenger safety report safety concerns to federal regulators? Either you can fix a problem or you can sue. Since the pilot is obviously a proud American, he chose the latter course. And, he's ...

Feb 21st, 2009 at 4:00PM:
If you've been to the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, then you might recognize this exhibit. You know, the one that hangs from the ceiling of the lobby as you walk in? Dale Chihuly's "Fiori di Como" (or "Flowers of Como" -- as in, Lake Como in Italy) is a glass masterpiece that covers a 70 x 30 foot area with over 2,000 colorful glass elements. It's one of many cool sights to behold in the City of ...

Jan 22nd, 2009 at 8:30AM: Don't try this at home.
When a Delta plane arriving from Salt Lake City landed in Phoenix yesterday, one man opened the emergency exit door at the back and got off by hopping off the wing. Or perhaps he climbed down? Regardless of how he got off, he was apprehended, naturally, and could be in bigger trouble than he anticipated.
To his credit, the plane was at the terminal already, and other ...

Jun 30th, 2008 at 8:30AM: Whoa! Wait a minute. How can that be? Where have I been? I keep thinking I have more freedom of movement about the world than I actually have. Here's one more place I can't go.
I just read that at the Phoenix Country Club women are not allowed in the men's grill room where the serious business deal making and dining occurs. No, the women who want find food to nosh on are pushed off into the ...

Oct 13th, 2007 at 6:20PM: Now that I've expressed my glee that Columbus's Short North is listed as one of the best neighborhoods for retirement, here's the low down on the rest of the list. The original article is from Money Magazine and posted at CNN.com. The version I saw yesterday was on AOL's welcome page. It's an abbreviated version. Instead of 30 city neighborhoods, there are 10 with a link to the other 20.
Here they ...

Jul 6th, 2006 at 11:27AM: Four days weren't nearly enough for me at Chaparral Suites & Resort in Scottsdale, AZ. I have to go back. I must. If you're planning a family vacation or a romantic getaway to the Phoenix / Scottsdale area, the Chaparral Suites will work for either set of plans. Relax in complete peace and quiet in your room or visit one of the two pools for a more livelier atmosphere. In the morning head down ...
