May 6th, 2009 at 9:00AM: While there have been many reports and videos highlighting the inflight entertainment provided by Virgin America, Gadling thought it would be interesting to find out what kind of technology was available to the pilots and flight attendants at Virgin America. Take a look as pilots Gabe and Eddie and flight attendant Rebecca give Gadling a look at some of the gadgets available to them on board ...

May 4th, 2009 at 10:30AM: Last week, Virgin America kicked off service with to Orange County, California with its inaugural flight from San Francisco down to John Wayne airport, between which they'll be running 5 daily flights. Never ones to miss a party, Gadling stopped by the tarmac to pay a visit to Sir Richard Branson, dish with MC Hammer, apply a few layers of spray tan and boost our hipster credentials. The after ...

Apr 21st, 2009 at 8:30AM: Fresh spring food selections isn't all that Virgin America is up to these days. Virgin America is also interested in lessening its impact on the environment. To prove it, the California-based airlines has joined The Climate Registry, the non--profit organization dedicated to keeping track of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) to aid in better regulation so that efforts to be more environmentally ...

Apr 20th, 2009 at 2:00PM: If you're sick of the same old chicken or beef + wine or sugar water for your in flight meal, you're not alone. Many people in the green revolution are moving towards healthier and fitter food selections, and the same old peanuts, pretzels and diet coke aren't cutting it. To find any creative meal content, however, you're going to have to step away from the legacy carriers. Leading the effort, ...

Mar 20th, 2009 at 12:30PM: Virgin America is joining the lets get more money from somewhere routine and is beginning to charge for the first checked bag. Unlike other airlines that charge more for the second checked bag and even more for the third, Virgin America is only going to charge $15 per bag up to ten bags. Ten bags!!! Wow. That's for one person.
Listen folks. If any of you are thinking of moving, I'd move to where ...

Mar 4th, 2009 at 11:30AM: Bored this week? Virgin America has some nice low fares loaded right now for travel to and from San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Los Angeles or Las Vegas. At just $38 each way, you can get yourself a round trip ticket for just $97, all taxes and fees included. The prices only seem to be valid for travel in the coming week, so don't expect $100 tickets during the summer months. Normally, good ...

Mar 3rd, 2009 at 1:00PM: It's funny. Airlines blame last year's industry implosions on consumers' non-stop demands for low fares. Ask any analyst and they'll say "Transcontinental fares are as low this year as they are were in 1986! Where's the inflation! The Humanity! The Humanity!" We can't be completely to blame though. Three out of four times, a consumer like myself needs to buy a ticket, logs on to Kayak, finds the ...

Feb 24th, 2009 at 2:00PM: Now that the dust has settled from Virgin America's Boston route launch, it's time to move onto the next destination: Orange County. John Wayne Airport, nestled in the Southern Los Angeles suburbs plans to receive service some time this spring. But why Orange County? The airline already offers service to LA, a mere few miles to the north and plenty of Midwestern and Southern cities would love to ...

Feb 18th, 2009 at 10:00AM:
Virgin America kicked off their service to Boston with a bang last week, in an evening filled with excitement, celebrities and as usual, more than a few delicious beverages. Gadling bloggers were on hand to capture the event that started at Logan Airport around 3PM. Naturally, Sir Richard Branson made the last minute decision to come down from the jetbridge in drag, after which a brief ceremony ...

Feb 5th, 2009 at 8:30AM: In my mind, there is nothing worse than flying. I think it's a waste of time (I've probably wasted, cumulatively, half a year of my life in the air). Ever since I had to take off my shoes and undo my belt, I've hated checking through security. And there's something really gross about sharing oxygen with over a hundred other travelers on a plane. I feel like I'm bound to catch the flu. The one ...

Feb 3rd, 2009 at 11:30AM: Summary: The low cost carrier (LCC) may seem like a new development in the aviation world, but the concept is anything but new. The first real low cost "no frills" airline was Laker Airways, which took off back in 1966 from the UK, and shuttled passengers to destinations all around the world for as little as $50. Laker Airways provided the inspiration for many of the current low cost carriers, ...

Jan 20th, 2009 at 9:30AM: In honor of their inaugural flights into Boston next month, Virgin America just kicked off the "What's your Revolution?" campaign, a site dedicated to change, and the way that we and the airline are revolutionizing the world. They open by proclaiming: "Virgin America is the new domestic airline declaring independence from the old way of flying and giving the power back to the people. And now our ...

Jan 7th, 2009 at 2:00PM: The long heralded arrival of Virgin America into Boston Logan airport has been scheduled, and the tight jeans are coming out. February 11th marks the launch party in Los Angeles for the new LAX-BOS and SFO-BOS transcontinental routes, while the day after, Feb 12th will be the first eastbound flights. Virgin America is keeping mum on what exactly the plans are for the launch; each new route so far ...

Dec 30th, 2008 at 1:00PM: Welcome to part 2 of my "looking back at '08" segment. In part 1, I listed 5 things we lost in 2008, and in this article I will list 5 things we gained. While you reminisce about 2008, why not check out my list of 10 New Years resolutions that could help make 2009 a much better travel year! There is no denying that 2008 will take up a pretty decent chunk of history books in years to come. Between ...

Dec 9th, 2008 at 8:30AM: Remember yesterday when we told you that Virgin America was throwing in the towel at making Chicago their next destination? Not a couple hours after our post went live the ladies at over at VX issued the formal press release: BOSTON will be the next city that the airline opens service to. Commencing on February 12th of next year, flights will serve Los Angeles three times daily, San Francisco ...

Dec 8th, 2008 at 11:30AM: The nation's primo hipster carrier that has been rapidly spreading through the country just pulled back on its bid to make Chicago its next destination city. The outlooked looked great for a first flight in Q1 '09 not too long ago, but everything hinged on the airline securing landing slots at the airport, most of which are rabidly guarded by American and United, both of which control 85% of the ...

Nov 27th, 2008 at 11:00AM: Virgin America launched it's community website yesterday, where you can dig deep into the annals of VX history and read stories from contributing authors. Over at community.virginamerica.com, you can also find links to the assorted tentacles that the airline has slipped into the interwebs via Twitter, Facebook and Youtube. Soon, yes, you can be a Virgin America groupie too (I already have my ...

Nov 26th, 2008 at 9:30AM: Yesterday I wrote about the fun I had on board Virgin America flight 8001. This inaugural GoGo Wi-Fi enabled plane was also the celebration plane for the launch of Youtube Live. Of course, when you mix free Champagne, live broadcasts of Youtube celebrities and Internet access, you end up with one happy party plane. Check out the gallery of shots I made of the flight, and you might get a bit of ...

Nov 24th, 2008 at 11:00AM: This past Saturday, Gadling participated in a special flight celebrating the launch of inflight Internet on board Virgin America. During this flight, I worked hard to test every aspect of the service I could. I looked into the kind of products and services many of us use on the road. The Wi-Fi enabled plane will enter commercial service as a special Thanksgiving surprise for passengers on Virgin ...
