Nov 19th, 2009 at 4:00PM: The best travel deals don't happen on Black Friday. Instead of rushing out to the nearest big box store to do battle with the other crazy shoppers, pull the trigger by November 20, and get a trip to Keystone, Colorado. Book your stay for between December 19 and 26, and you could score rates as low as $101 a night -- 50 percent off the usual rate! The deal works at Keystone Lodge & Spa and the ...

Nov 17th, 2009 at 1:00PM: As excitement for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver builds, most people who haven't planned ahead are looking for last minute accommodations for the event and finding rates to be quite pricey. During the Games, costs will be as high as the demand, but it seems that in the weeks leading up the event, there are plenty of deals to be had.
Right now though December 17, Whistler-Blackcomb, the ...

With snow already falling all over the U.S., it is clear that ski season is in full swing, and with winter still more than a month and a half away, ski bums and bunnies have plenty of great months on the slope ahead. To that end, Outside Magazine has ...

Nov 3rd, 2009 at 4:30PM: Skiing, like polo and yachting, is a rich man's(or woman's) sport. The equipment is expensive, and in order to participate, you need to go to a specific place. In the case of skiing, this means paying ski lift fees and traveling to a pricey ski resort. The costs can add up and make it prohibitively expensive for less affluent ski enthusiasts.
But there are some less expensive ski resorts. Ski.com ...

Oct 28th, 2009 at 11:00AM:
Circle October 30, 2009 on your calendar. Do it twice. That's the date the Telluride Ski Resort 2009-2010 season pass sale closes – you have until Friday to lock in a savings of up to 50 percent. With plenty more people hitting the slopes this year, expect demand to be high, so you'd be out of your mind not to lock this in early.
To pick up the biggest win, buy a 4Pass, which cuts the ...

Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:00PM: The travel market may be in the tank, but things are looking good for Vail Resorts. Season passes for their slopes were up 13 percent last month. Sure, some of the deals have probably helped, but the market has definitely changed over the past year. In 2008, travelers were feeling the fresh sting of the financial crisis, and job cuts were looming. Everyone became more cautious, because they didn't ...

Skiing couples looking to get married on a mountain should look into Keystone Resort in Colorado. Couples who host a wedding at the resort between November 30, 2009 and November 30, 2010 will receive complimentary passes for the 2010-2011 ski ...

Aug 22nd, 2009 at 11:30AM: It's always been that, at their most basic, skiing and snowboarding require two things - some sort of skis or a board and of course, snow. And snow usually requires precipitation and a sufficiently cold temperature(this concludes today's lesson in meteorological science). But as of August 29th, snow - and the weather conditions required to create it - will become unnecessary for American skiers. ...

Jul 16th, 2009 at 1:30PM: It's hard to think about the slopes right now. The sun is beating down, and sweat is a part of daily life. But, there are a few people out there whose minds still drift to mountain tops and a chill in the air. Well, we just got a step closer to ski season: Telluride Ski Resort has announced its season pass rates for the coming winter. And, they'll look pretty familiar. The resort has decided not ...

Jun 19th, 2009 at 10:30AM: It's already the end of the week, so time for some more "fun with signs". I'm pretty sure I know what this sign means, but I'm also confident I know what it could mean. Feel free to let your imagination go wild and post in the comments what you think this ski resort is asking its guests not to do. ...

Dec 25th, 2007 at 10:00AM: In a part of the world famous for its snow and magnificent mountains, I was quite surprised to learn that there is only one ski resort in all of Alaska.
There is more than one place to ski, of course, but the Alyeska Resort in south-central Alaska is the only place considered a proper resort –- you know, with rooms at the base of the ski lift and snow bunnies frolicking in the hot tubs. ...

Dec 4th, 2007 at 10:30AM: This is slightly scary but not entirely unexpected. According to a New York Times report, ski resorts in Europe are making the necessary adjustments to continue attracting people to the resorts after global warming has all but eliminated the possibility to ski. Resorts are already investing in more snow making machines, but this alone won't solve the problem. Instead, in places like the Swiss ...

Apr 5th, 2007 at 11:31AM: It's "shoulder season" time in some places. That means it is between high and low seasons. In April and May, crowds are not so big and not so small and temperatures are not too hot and not too cold, particularly if you are heading to the Caribbean, Europe or to ski resorts. I guess if you are going to a ski resort, you do need it cold enough for snow.
Considering that it snowed today in ...

Feb 2nd, 2007 at 4:02PM: According to an article in today's New York Times, Punxsutawney Phil and Charles G. Hogg of the Staten Island Zoo have predicted an early spring. With that said, here's a winter time action option while there's snow to enjoy.
For anyone who wants the thrill of whizzing and spinning down a hill without the hike back up, tubing is it. Instead of strapping on a pair of downhill skis and forking ...
