Travel writer, founder of The Galavanting Girls, and creator of the Travel Blog Exchange conference, Kim Mance will soon be setting off on a cruise to visit, among other places, the island of Roatan in Honduras. Rather than spend her time in port sunning on the ...

You wouldn't know it from the abundance of nutmeg in shops, but Grenada's production of the spice stopped five years ago. And it'll continue to be at a halt for another five years. Why? Because of Hurricane Ivan. 82% of the island's nutmeg trees were destroyed by the 2004 hurricane. But amazingly enough, there's still plenty of nutmeg there. On my recent trip to Grenada, I found it everywhere ...

Oct 16th, 2009 at 1:30PM: As Halloween approaches and the weather gets cooler, we realize that winter in the northern US, with its short hours of daylight and negative wind-chill factors, is just around the corner. Suddenly, it seems like there's no better time to book a tropical vacation. If you're thinking about a trip to a sunny island paradise, log in to Twitter and start following Marriott Resorts.
Now through the ...

It was just a few months ago that I found myself, once again, with itchy feet. I needed to go somewhere warm and tropical, and I needed to get there as soon as possible. I ran the idea by the hubby, who is always up for a last-minute jaunt, especially when we're talking the Caribbean, and started the proverbial search for where and when.

Sep 3rd, 2009 at 10:00AM: I'm a Southern gal through and through, and one thing we country folks know is our barbecue. For us, a platter of grilled ribs or chicken is our sole reason to exist. We can't live without it, and we take great pride in executing our seasoned meats with our own unique culinary perfection. Whether you're talking pulled pork doused in a piquant cider vinegar sauce or baby back ribs slow-roasted and ...

Aug 30th, 2009 at 8:00AM: I know we're still sweating the summer, and January seems like a lifetime away. But, think back seven or eight months. Remember how cold it was. It's hard to make the connection, but it really was that cold out, and you lived it. It's going to happen again before you know it. So, now is probably the time to book a retreat from the crushing cold. Curtain Bluff's new package, "The Power of 10," is ...

Jul 25th, 2009 at 12:30PM: I've always dreamed of going to Cuba, but fears of hefty fines and prison time have so far kept me from doing so. As it turns out, maybe I shouldn't have been worried. Mytchell Mora, a U.S. citizen, has been to Cuba four times in the last tens years and hasn't managed to get in any trouble - despite his best efforts.
Mora actually wants to get arrested for violating the United States' ban on ...

Jul 20th, 2009 at 9:30AM: Are pigs the new dolphins? While many visitors to the Caribbean shell out big bucks to swim with Flipper, it seems others would rather watch the antics of Porky. On the Bahamas' Big Major Spot Island, people are heading to Pig Beach, which has been home to a family of wild pigs for decades, to watch the pigs swim and play in the water.
The little pink and brown porkers, which I dare say are ...

Jun 28th, 2009 at 4:00PM: Honduras usually isn't the first place that people think of when they think of vacationing in Central America. Big players in the market like Costa Rica, Cancun and Cozumel consume the majority of the market, while many think that other countries in the region are unsafe or unstable. It's true that Central America hasn't got the best record for safety in the world -- the government of Honduras ...

Apr 3rd, 2009 at 4:00PM: Start at the Ladera for three nights, and then move to Cap Maison for another three. And, there's one rate that includes food and beverages for the week you're bouncing between the island's southern rainforest and northern secluded beach. Mar 28th, 2009 at 2:00PM: The bed and breakfast community will probably put a hit out on me soon, if the comments from my last article are any indication. But, I'll take my life into my hands and cover the latest news from BedandBreakfast.com anyway.
Under the new "Tanks for Traveling" program, BedandBreakfast.com members will be able to save some cash on their travels this year. I'm not crazy about the name of the ...

Mar 28th, 2009 at 10:00AM: Okay, it's not exactly a cure for cancer, but any initiative that does cut down on fossil fuel reliance still resonates with me. So, I was pretty excited to see that the Jalousie Plantation has adopted a hybrid solar-powered golf cart to move guests around on its 192-acre property ... with no carbon emissions! This is among the first of these environmentally-friendly golf carts in the Caribbean, ...

Mar 20th, 2009 at 2:00PM: I grew up in a little fishing village, as did my husband -- and so now that we both live in the city, about every 12 months or so, we both crave the ocean. It's like a sickness, really: unless we get an opportunity to breathe in some salty air, we start to get all crabby and out of sorts. Or maybe that's just my excuse for wanting to get away to a beach vacation. In any event, my yearning for the ...

The company Bike and Cruise, paired with Norwegian Cruise Lines offers unique vacation options in Alaska, Europe and the Caribben. Each day the ship takes you to a new port where you set off on your bicycle to enjoy the sights and scenery.
The cycling portion is led by an expert cyclist which certainly ...

Feb 10th, 2009 at 11:00AM: This week, I got a great email from Gadling reader Matthew, about a really exciting upcoming trip: Dear Karen, My friends and I are going on a week long trip to Varadero in Cuba in two weeks. One of the main attractions that I'm looking forward to is the cuevas de bellamar, I'll be taking my Nikon D60 with the stock lens. I'm not sure what settings I should be using to capture that low ambient ...

Jan 20th, 2009 at 12:00PM: If the trip bookings at the AAA travel show, Great Vacations Expo this past weekend are any indication of the type of travel many people are looking for, it's cruises, cruises and more cruises. While there, I ran into Bill Purpera, editor of Home and Away magazine for the Ohio section who filled me in on the statistics when I asked him about the biggest vacation sellers on Saturday.
Given that ...

Jan 15th, 2009 at 2:30PM: The Caribbean island of Grenada has banned bathing suits! Unfortunately, they don't want to see your bits and pieces; they want you to put on something else. Wearing your g-string at the beach is still okay, but walk around inland with just your bikini top on? You could be slapped with a $270 Indecent Exposure fine. No shirt, no shoes, no Grenada. It's fair enough, we suppose, considering that ...
