Air New Zealand doesn't let you down with videos; that's for sure. This video, "Behind the Scenes of the Bear Essentials," starring Bear Grylls, is just that: a behind the scenes video from "The Bear Essentials of Safety" video, which saw over two million views. Focusing on the outdoors goodness New Zealand has to offer travelers (instead of just, say, the plane itself), this video is a few ...

Nov 8th, 2012 at 8:00AM: NBC has put out a casting call for a new reality show that promises to be quite an adventure. The unnamed show will be hosted by Bear Grylls of "Man vs. Wild" fame and features a large cash prize, although just how large remains to be seen.
The show's format sounds vaguely familiar with the premise being that teams of two will be dropped in a remote location and will have to learn to exist in ...

Sep 28th, 2012 at 12:00PM: "Man vs. Wild" host Bear Grylls will teach ten lucky (or deep-pocketed) fans his famous survival techniques during the first Bear Grylls Survival Academy in Scotland this November.
Much like his television show, the adventure will require participants to test their land and sea survival skills as well as a series of adventure tasks. The culminating test? A 36-hour wilderness expedition that ...

May 17th, 2012 at 12:30PM: Bear Grylls is one of those television personalities that is very polarizing – you either love him or hate him. His approach to travel and adventure, often with a complete disregard to his own welfare, has earned him fans and critics alike, and has made him an easy target for parody.
Take the video below for example. It was created by an Australian company called Priceless Productions and ...

Nov 24th, 2011 at 8:00AM: One of the Discovery Channel's most popular programs, Survivorman, is returning to television after being on hiatus for more than three years. The show, which features host Les Stroud demonstrating survival techniques in extreme settings, such as the Kalahari Desert or Alaskan wilderness, will relaunch with a series of special episodes sometime in 2012.
While Stroud's list of destinations is ...

Nov 3rd, 2010 at 12:30PM: Americans love stories about great adventurers. I grew up wanting to be Indiana Jones (as evidence by the destruction I caused when I repurposed a jump rope into a whip). Bear Grylls has become a celebrity simply by surviving. Andrew Zimmern went from drug addict to chef to celebrity because of his iron constitution. Why, then, are Americans not as adventurous as the people they celebrate? In a ...

Apr 8th, 2010 at 11:30AM: Andrew Zimmern is best known as the host of Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. But before he was traveling the globe eating glands, connective tissue and anuses, he was an acclaimed chef, writer and expert in Chinese cuisine. The new season of his Travel Channel program premieres later this month and, in anticipation of that, he chatted with us about a wide range of topics.

Jun 4th, 2009 at 6:30PM:
A couple nights ago, Will Ferrell made his much-anticipated debut on an episode of Bear Grylls' survival show Man vs. Wild. The pair spent several frigid nights in the north of Sweden, and like everything WIll Ferrell does (okay, Blades of Glory excepted) there were plenty of laughs. Check out the Discovery Channel promo for the show above.
The whole episode has already been uploaded by some ...

May 12th, 2009 at 8:30AM: The Discovery Channel has announced that it is getting into the travel industry by launching "Discovery Adventures" later this year. The intent is to offer adventure travelers the chance to visit the places that often are depicted on the channel's many outdoor related television shows. Discovery has joined forces with established adventure travel operator G.A.P. Adventures and will soon be ...

Apr 20th, 2009 at 10:00AM: Actor-comedian Will Ferrell recently braved some frigid conditions in Sweden while joining Bear Grylls for a taping of the popular Discovery Channel show Man vs. Wild. Ferrell called the experience, which included rappelling down frozen waterfalls and drinking his own urine in the remote mountains of Sweden, "the thrill of a lifetime," although he notes that he "did get urine-drunk, which is ...

Nov 8th, 2007 at 2:30PM: This past Summer, Bear Grylls -- star of Discovery's Man vs. Wild -- came under fire in a NY Post expose which claimed he "appears to camp out in quickly-built shelters deep in the wilderness while battling hypothermia and dehydration. But when the cameras stop rolling, Grylls has actually moved to luxurious hotels." When we covered the story, our readers responded with mixed feelings. "I don't ...

Jul 24th, 2007 at 4:46PM: Just the other day, my girlfriend and I were watching Bear Grylls on the Discovery Channel's Man vs. Wild and commenting on how crazy he was -- eating spiders, sleeping with snakes, and climbing up and down waterfalls while battling a massive case of diarrhea. Maybe he's not so crazy? The New York Post is running an article that questions the reality of Man vs. Wild, saying, "On the program, ...

May 16th, 2007 at 3:36PM: Bear Grylls -- otherwise known as the filthy British guy in Man vs. Wild -- literally soared into the record books yesterday after he completed a "petrol-powered paraglider" flight over the Himalayas. Wonder if he saw Conrad Anker?
Shivering through mind-numbing temperatures of -76°F to pass the 29,500-foot-mark -- almost 10,000 feet higher than the previous powered paraglide record -- the ...
