SkyMall Monday: Sling Couture Arm Sling
Remember when you were young and broke your arm and everyone signed your cast? It almost made falling off that jungle gym worth it to have everyone you knew come over to autograph that itchy plaster on your arm. Sure, you ended up with a pale, shriveled limb and a pretty boring summer, but that cast made you popular. Well, adulthood is less conducive to enjoying a cast. As an adult, you have meetings, social obligations and dress codes. It's hard to attend black tie functions with a bright white cast. And everyone will want to know how you injured yourself. Referencing that jungle gym probably won't be very plausible. Instead, people will be questioning your decision to make a go at being a professional arm wrestler. But what if you could conceal your busted wing and look fabulous doing it? This week, SkyMall Monday features an accessory that no klutz or failed armed wrestler should be without. SkyMall knows that just because your health is bad doesn't mean that you can't look good. And that's why everyone with a broken arm and an elitist social calendar needs the Sling Couture Arm Sling.Think that bedazzling your ulna isn't that humorous? Then you don't get good skeleton jokes. But, make no bones about it, this product is a must for anyone with a broken arm. Just take a look at the product description:
Didn't I just say that? Now you've read that theory twice...on the internet...so it's doubly true!Heal properly in greater comfort, and look good while doing it...When you look better, you will feel better!
So, whether you fell off of a jungle gym, sucked at arm wrestling or were thrown down a flight of stairs by Ray Pruit, heal in style with the Sling Couture Arm Sling. Your arm may be broken, but your dignity (and fashion sense) will still be intact. And that's really all that matters.

My roommate's sister broke her ankle last year and my brother's recovering from foot surgery. Does Sky Mall offer a comparable bejeweled boot?

I was amused by this entry, as I am with most of the "Skymall Monday" items, until this sentence brought me to a sudden halt: "This week, SkyMall Monday features an accessory that no klutz or wife of a guy with anger management issues should be without." I get that it's a light hearted column and the rest of the article's tone is cute and I guess the author thought this was too, but it rubbed me the wrong way today, particularly since, in law enforcement, I run across way too many "husbands/boyfriends (and some girlfriends too) with anger issues".
It especially made me cringe today, when two of the top stories in the local news are about women murdered as a result of domestic violence. Both victims were stabbed, one by her fiance (headline--father feared for daughter's life) and one by her ex-husband during a custody exchange in a store parking lot, in front of her two daughters, both under 10 (not that there's a good age to see your mother murdered by your father). So you understand why I especially didn't see the humor in this today. For way too many women (and not a few men) it's no joking matter, not on a par with being a little klutzy, and the last thing the people in this situation need is a fashionable way to cover the damage.

CMM - I agree with you completely and have edited the post accordingly. That line was from an early draft that I later edited because I shared your exact same concerns. Unfortunately, I failed to edit that sentence when revising the draft.
Domestic violence is not a laughing matter and I apologize for leaving that line in the post. Thank you for pointing it out to me and for your work in law enforcement.

Wow, Mike, you completely describe everything a person goes through when they are painfully and awkwardly immobilized by an injury or procedure....and how much these comfortable and beautiful slings help! They actually do "Beautify Your Power of Healing" by making the person so much more comfortable and fashionable during such a difficult ordeal. The remarks change from "OMG what happened to you?!" to "Wow, you look great and so stylish....what happened??!!" It really changes the person's outlook and gives them positive attention and a way to resume normal life! They have slings for both men and women and really unique Fashion Medical Accessories for all kinds of injuries.... What a great concept!!
