Oct 9th, 2011 at 2:00PM: While most eco-tours use activities such as bird watching, rafting, and hiking to highlight regional issues, a new tour, led by expedition leader Marcus Eriksen, will take a different approach. Beginning May, 2012, travelers will have the opportunity to sail via yacht through floating islands of debris left from the March 11, 2011, tsunami in Japan. Tourists will see first-hand the pollution ...

As a kid, I spent lots of summer vacations staring at boats in the harbor. I never had a good reason for it but today, Flickr user nicocrisafulli's photo brought all those boat memories rushing back. There's something childlike and wonderful about their motion, sound and colors: the way they chaotically bob up and down, the soft thwapping of the covers whipping in the breeze and their colorful ...

Nov 15th, 2010 at 4:00PM: Feel like taking the yacht for a ride through the ice? Not a problem, if you're in Moscow.
The Radisson Royal Moscow just introduced a fleet of specially commissioned river yachts now equipped with ice breakers -- just so that winter travelers can still see the [snow-capped] sights while in Russia.
The yachts provide year-round, private cruises along the Moskva River, where guests can take ...

Sep 14th, 2010 at 4:00PM: What makes a superyacht super? It's not just size that matters with these boats. The superyachts of the future are going green, according to the latest designs from Zero to Nine Design.
The eco-friendly superyacht 006 is a 43-meter (141-feet) concept yacht that boasts a fitted hardtop with photovoltaic cells capable of generating up to 20kW. Instead of using that power to for the sauna or the ...

As an expat in Istanbul, I am very fortunate to have awesome opportunities for short trips around Europe and the Middle East. My previous weekend jaunt was to Beirut, Lebanon. Though the current 90+ degree weather is ruling out a lot of domestic travel for now, for my next getaway, I made like the locals and headed south to the beach.
The place: Bodrum, Turkey
The Bodrum peninsula fancies ...

Fortunately, the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora has planned for travelers like you, who want just a little bit more with their side of luxury. Adding to its fleet of custom-built boats, Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora has introduced the Navigator, a custom-crafted catamaran, available to guests for transportation in and around Bora Bora. ...

Jul 22nd, 2010 at 1:00PM: The goal of a whale watching trip is self-explanatory: you're hoping to get up close and personal with some whales. But that isn't always a good thing. Sometimes whale watchers get more than they bargained for - like when a confused whale leaps out of the water and falls directly onto your boat. That's exactly what happened to Paloma Werner on a recent whale watching trip near Cape Town, South ...

Forget about room keys and security cards - the only way to lock your bedroom door at the Bitter End Yacht Club is from the inside of the room. That means when you leave the room for a day of sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling or kite surfing, you leave your door unlocked. Seems like a hard lesson to take on in a new destination, but it's worth trusting this Caribbean island hotspot.
The rooms ...

Nov 9th, 2009 at 1:30PM: When most people think of a "safari" they think of hiking through the bush of South Africa or trekking through the jungles of Costa Rica in search of exotic animals native to the region.
But here in the US we have plenty of our own wild animals to see and going "on safari" here doesn't have to mean doing one of those drive-though "wild animal" parks where non-native animals like zebras and ...

Oct 30th, 2009 at 2:00PM: A British couple sailing from the Seychelles to Tanzania was kidnapped by Somali pirates and is now being held for ransom.
Paul and Rachel Chandler, both in their late 50's, had been sailing since March on their 38-foot sailboat and keeping a blog about their journey. Last week family and friends alerted authorities that they had not heard from the couple in several days, and shortly after, ...

In a country dominated by big box stores and strip malls, it can be easy to forget our past, but there are occasional spots that are so well preserved they overwhelm you with a sense of another age. Marblehead, Massachusetts, is one of them.
Founded in 1629, Marblehead soon became a prosperous fishing village. In the 18th century it was home to privateers (a politically correct term for pirates ...

Oct 18th, 2009 at 12:00PM: Jessica Watson likes to travel, but she approaches the concept a bit differently. The 16-year-old Australian just left Sydney Harbor today, and she wants to take on the world. Her goal is to sail 23,600 miles alone -- through some of the toughest waters in the world -- and become the youngest person in history to do so.
The trek has kicked off some debate in Australia as to whether Watson's ...

Jun 14th, 2009 at 8:00AM: A few days back we posted a story about a custom built Airbus A380 that was being built for Saudi prince al-Waleed bin Talal. With a steam room, a Turkish bath, and a concert hall (complete with baby grand piano), not to mention a full garage for the prince's Rolls Royce, the plane clocked in at a cool half-billion dollars. Not to be outdone by this lavish vehicle, Russian billionaire Roman ...

Mar 6th, 2009 at 9:00AM: Golfers, vacationers and anyone looking to fly under the radar will have a new place to go in May. Grupo Viveros has sunk $300 million into the Viveros Resort on Isla Viveros (Viveros, Viveros, Vivieros ... sense a theme?), and in a few months, this small, once uninhabited island off the coast of Panama will be home to a five-star resort community. Apr 11th, 2007 at 2:07PM: How much would you pay to travel the world in complete and total luxury? If you're Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and money is no object, designing a boat to fit your needs could run you $138million.
That's the story according to Mario La Via, an Italian boat builder with Privilege Motor Yacht. Although -- while he confirms the order -- he hasn't said for certain that Jolie and Pitt are the ...

You can charter a boat called the Absinthe, to take you and 11 of your friends skiing in British Columbia. Billed as the world's only yacht-based ski-lodge, this $36,000 per day (not including meals and fuel), 201-foot yacht will cruise you along the BC coast until you near an appropriate mountain. ...
