Apr 20th, 2010 at 10:30AM: We're not shy about our love of SkyMall here at Gadling. And our favorite in-flight catalog has a history of partnering with the Dallas-based Southwest Airlines. But this time around, instead of giving away Garden Yetis, the two travel pals are teaming up to send a couple of lucky winners on a trip for two to Panana City Beach, Florida.
If you purchase anything from SkyMall between now and June ...

Apr 8th, 2010 at 5:00PM: Southwest Airlines is offering "Double Credit Days" today through May 26.
To be eligible, you must be a member of the airline's frequent flier program, called Rapid Rewards, but you can join today and still earn the extra credits.
If you already belong to the Rapid Rewards program, you still have to register online to get in on the promotion. If you fly and don't register, you won't get the ...

Apr 6th, 2010 at 2:30PM: Air travelers have all been there -- the plane is about to take off, but first we have to awkwardly look away or bury our noses in magazines to avoid paying attention to the safety announcements. They're the same every time, so we always know that the closest exit may be behind us. But a few savvy airlines have come up with better ways to grab passengers' attention. From stripping down to rapping, ...

Mar 11th, 2010 at 10:30AM: Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is set to open in Panama City, Fla., in May, and travelers can already book flights to the new facility.
The big coup for the new airport is a deal with Southwest Airlines, which did not previously fly any routes to the Florida Panhandle. Southwest will offer nonstop flights between Panama City and Nashville, Orlando, Houston and Baltimore ...

Feb 16th, 2010 at 2:00PM: Philadelphia airport's Terminal E got a little makeover and it's debuting the new look today.
The $45 million expansion in Philly Phili includes seven new gates for aircraft, a 500-seat passenger waiting area, a mini food court with new restaurant chains, and a 350-foot curved-glass wall. Coming soon, a new baggage-claim building with nine carousels and new ticket counters. Behind the scenes, ...

Feb 13th, 2010 at 9:30PM:
Oh Southwest Airlines... You make yourself look good by staying away from those pesky baggage charges, then you go and make yourself look ridiculous by kicking a famous actor off your plane because the captain decided he was "a safety risk" for being too fat to fly.
Bad, bad move.

Jan 21st, 2010 at 2:00PM: Starting in April, Air France is going to make you pay for what you consume. If you consume only one seat, that's all you'll have to buy. But, if you require more than one seat, expect to whip out your plastic. For some reason, airline spokesman Nicolas Petteau calls it "a question of security," but I don't think so. To me, it seems more like a question of getting what you pay for ... and asking ...

Jan 10th, 2010 at 1:00PM: Why is it that we never hear stories of smart bank robbers? For some reason, when someone decides to rob a bank, it is usually someone as dumb as a bag of rocks. Take for example 24 year old Deoquisto Dennis.
According to the FBI, this Chicago resident walked into a TCF bank branch on South Cicero Avenue in Burbank, handed the teller a note demanding cash, and threatened to harm if his demands ...

Dec 29th, 2009 at 3:00PM: Everybody seems to want the travel market to recover next year, but it looks like more time will be spent in yards, instead. According to a new USA Today/Gallup poll, only 16 percent of us are going to hit the skies or crash in hotels more than we did in what will go down in history as a dismal 2009. Close to a third said they are going to spend less time in guestrooms and cramped plane seats. The ...

The Southwest Porch in Bryant park has been around this the summer and has provided locals are tourists strolling through that Midtown greens space a place to relax, have a drink and grab a snack inspired by the cities that the airline services. But for three days this week, Southwest has invited Gadling's favorite catalog, SkyMall, to join the party. With Slankets featured on the cover of the ...

Dec 4th, 2009 at 5:30PM: When a Southwest Airlines flight took off from Chicago Midway Airport today bound for Salt Lake City it had 123 passengers. When it landed, there were 124. The addition joined the flight at 30,000 feet somewhere above Denver.
As one of the passengers discovered, the floor at the back of an airplane can work fine as a delivery room in a pinch. Luckily, there was a doctor on board who could help ...

Dec 2nd, 2009 at 3:30PM: A Southwest Airlines jet bound for Albuquerque clipped wings with a Fed Ex cargo jet Sunday at the Salt Lake City Airport. A spokesperson for Southwest said the jet was about to pull back from the gate when it was bumped by the cargo plane. The pilots had not yet started the engine when they felt the "jolt" of the impact, which sliced off a 6-foot section of the plane's wingtip.

Until, that is, he really needed to get somewhere fast.
The San Jose man bought a last-minute ticket from Southwest Airlines to attend his uncle's funeral, but when he arrived at the ticket counter the agent looked at him and told him he needed to buy a ...

Pamela Root, who was kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight Friday, will receive another chance to fly on the airline. She and her son were removed from a San Jose-bound plane when her two-year-old son wouldn't stop screaming "Go! Plane! Go!" and "I want Daddy!"
In addition to an apology, the airline gave her a refund and a travel voucher for $300. Root had hoped to be compensated for the ...

Oct 31st, 2009 at 1:00PM:
It's easy for passengers to grow annoyed with kids on planes. There's nothing worse than hearing a scream and knowing you're about to be part of a captive audience for several hours. Yet, flight crews usually show a lot more tolerance. Hey, they're on the plane to earn a paycheck. Every job has trials to be endured. Pamela Root's son, however, was too much for them.
Kid and mom were kicked ...

Sep 12th, 2009 at 1:00PM: Southwest Airlines is once again in the news for its claimed mistreatment of a passenger of size. Trampus Adams and his wife were flying from Las Vegas back home to Portland when an airline staff member requested that his wife get off the plane to purchase a second ticket. The staff member had made the decision that she was unable to safely fit in one seat. The humiliation drove her to tears and ...
