The U.S. State Department has issued a new Mexico travel warning, superseding last April's warning. Apparently, cartel violence stemming from drug trafficking, specifically violent struggles among the criminal organizations for control of trafficking routes, has resulted in a rising number of carjackings, kidnappings and gun battles throughout Mexico.
"U.S. travelers should be aware that ...

Nov 25th, 2011 at 11:00AM: Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday travel companies are going all out with some outstanding bargains on everything from airfare to cruise vacations. It's a time when sellers of travel hope they can get us to buy big, once, and take care of the whole family with a single purchase.
One big travel gift for the whole family is a great choice for people who don't like to shop very much and like ...

Jun 21st, 2011 at 7:00AM: In the latest round of bad news for travel to Mexico, Princess Cruises pronounced parts of Mexico still not safe Monday and that they would not be calling on Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan any time soon. That's double-bad news for a struggling Mexico that just wrapped up a week-long anti-crime campaign among other efforts to rebuild tourism. Our ongoing coverage continues.
"As the safety and ...

Jan 20th, 2011 at 9:16AM: Cocks have been crowing for hours before the sun begins to rise over the village of Melaque on the Pacific coast of Mexico, several hours drive south of Puerto Vallarta. The town lies along a large bay. At the northwest end are steep green hills, studded with rocks. The sea at this end is calm enough for easy swimming and fishing. Further southeast towards Villa Obregon, the surf is rougher and at ...

Some say that romance is a lost art - but it's not. It's just hiding, waiting to be uncovered in some of the most beautiful places around the globe. Whether you are trying to show that special someone that they truly are special, making a proposal, or rekindling the flame you once had with your spouse, setting the stage is your first step to success. Whether you are searching for the perfect ...

Jan 6th, 2010 at 12:00PM: Travel to Mexico got a big ol' kick in the cojones last year. The global recession spanked airlines and hotels around the world, and since the United States was ground zero for the financial crisis that accelerated the recession, Mexico likely lost some action from its biggest trading partner. And then swine flu came along, bringing much of the Mexican tourism and travel industry to a crawl. When ...

Oct 3rd, 2009 at 2:00PM: A new Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is opening next month, so you may want to start planning immediately. On November 16, 2009, Nicklaus himself will hit the ceremonial first tee shot at the new Punta Mita Bahia golf course. This is the second of his courses at Punta Mita – he designed Punta Mita Pacifico, which opened in 1999. Both Bahia and Pacifico are part of the private Punta Mita ...

May 13th, 2009 at 4:00PM: Ready to get away from the unpredictable Spring weather? How about a nice 4 night trip to Nuevo Vallarta? Starting at just $409 (based off a Los Angeles departure, Chicago from $425), you'll fly to Puerto Vallarta, and stay at the 5 star Riu Nuevo-Vallarta all-inclusive resort. This place offers some serious "all-inclusiveness" - lets start with the coolest part; a 4 bottle liquor dispenser in ...

Mar 9th, 2009 at 6:00PM: I've always been a sucker for photographs that have strong colours and geometric patterns -- so it's not surprising that I'm drawn to this photograph taken by malaycobra and shared in our Gadling Flickr pool. According to malaycobra, this beautiful statue is "one of the many statues on the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico." It's beautifully shot. If you've got some great travel shots you'd love ...

Spring Break is upon us, and for most college kids, March means two things: basketball and getting your color back on some tropical beach. When I think Mexico, I think drugs and girls gone wild, but there's something about Mexico that really draws a crowd in March and continues through the summer until late October. As Mexico continues to rank among the top spring break hot spots (this year ...

Jan 2nd, 2009 at 11:00AM: I was having a grand ole time surfing at Ala Moana Bowls the other day when a rude, disrespecting woman decided to paddle for a wave and proceeded to cut off three other surfers and nearly behead my friend. Growing ever more confrontational in my old age, I began to argue with the lady about her very inappropriate surf etiquette. Profanities were exchanged, I nearly spit in her face, and she ...

My first major trip on my own was when I was in the 12th grade. I had a summer job in Maine working at a kid's camp. Great way to learn how to water ski. My mode of transportation was a bus from New Paltz, New York to Augusta, Maine. Oh, the glory of the whoosh of the door before the bus pulled away from the bay. Freedom.
Our very own Martha's shot of someone boarding a bus in Puerto Vallarta, ...

Sep 26th, 2007 at 4:58PM: I'm only in my 20s, but there have been a few places where the party-hard attitudes of locals and visitors alike have left me feeling more like 87 than 27. I like have fun as much as the next gal, but I'm not one to stay up drinking all night and into most of the next morning too. I need my rest, and plus, I am not good with hangovers. But nonetheless, I've been to a few excellent parties and made ...

It looks like this classified ad was cribbed from Jay Leno's Tonight Show (notice the NBC peacock in the bottom corner), but it's funny nonetheless. Apparently some heartless soul's girlfriend died and he didn't want to waste that extra plane ticket + accommodations in the Mexican resort town of Puerto Vallarta. So not only did he actively search out someone to replace his dead girlfriend, but ...
