May 3rd, 2013 at 3:00PM:
The Museum of Photography in Berlin has just opened an exhibition of nude photos from the turn of the last century.
"The Naked Truth and More Besides Nude Photography around 1900" brings together hundreds of nude photos from an era we normally associate with old-fashioned prudery. In fact, nude photos were incredibly popular at that time. They had existed since the earliest days of the ...

Aug 3rd, 2012 at 11:00AM: In tough economic times, some hotels and resorts are ready to try just about anything to revive their sagging fortunes. On May 1, The Fawlty Towers Motel in Cocoa Beach rebranded itself as a "clothing-optional resort" in a bid to revive its sagging fortunes, and according to David Broad, 54, a Welsh national who manages the resort, business is picking up.
But not everyone in Cocoa Beach is ...

Jul 9th, 2012 at 1:00PM: Who wants to read a story about a nude beach from a Catholic prude who won't even take their clothes off? A month ago, I wrote a piece about a nude beach in Patmos that generated some hate mail, both from strangers and friends. I'm not a naturist and the fact that I took a few cheap shots at the age and appearance of many of the nudists I've encountered in Greece and elsewhere rubbed some the ...

Jul 3rd, 2012 at 10:00AM:
Almost a hundred years ago in southern Florida, a heartbroken man accomplished something incredible.
Edward Leedskalnin was an immigrant from Latvia. He moved to Florida in 1918 hoping to cure his tuberculosis. But it wasn't only his lungs that were sick; his heart was sick too. When he was 26 back in Latvia, so the story goes, he had been engaged to Agnes Scuffs, ten years his junior. His ...

Apr 17th, 2012 at 3:00PM: Cefn Sidan beach in Pembrey, Wales, is the latest flashpoint in an ongoing controversy over nudists in the UK.
The local government says it has received numerous complaints about bathers baring all at the eight-mile-long beach. The spot is a favorite for families and attracts more than a million visitors a year, most of who wear bathing suits. There have been complaints about nudists ...

Nov 18th, 2011 at 3:00PM: Last year we reported on a major victory for nudist hiking in Switzerland. A hiker in the conservative Swiss canton of Appenzell got fined for baring all, appealed, and won.
Now that victory has turned into defeat. The BBC reports that Switzerland's highest court has ruled that local authorities can fine people for hiking in the buff. Naked hiking isn't illegal per se, but but public indecency ...

Aug 25th, 2011 at 12:30PM: Nudist activist Steven Gough has been given 657 days in a Scottish prison only a minute after finishing his previous sentence.
The BBC reports that the naked hiker has served numerous terms in jail for public nudity and appearing in court nude. He insists it's his right to bare all wherever and whenever he wants. His refusal to wear clothes has led to an epic fight with the legal system in ...

May 29th, 2010 at 12:30PM: All he wanted to do was hike naked.
The 46 year-old man headed out, sans habillement, through the Swiss canton of Appenzell Inner-Rhodes to enjoy the scenery. He passed by a public barbecue area, keeping a safe distance so as not to get his wiener cooked, and near a Christian retirement home. Somebody complained, he got fined, and he went to court, this time wearing clothes.
Appenzell is ...

Nov 19th, 2009 at 2:00PM: After having been left alone for a while, California isn't tolerating nudity any more. The state's Department of Parks and Recreation is putting out the word that it will crack down on bare crack this year at San Onofre State Beach. So, if you like to sun in the buff or skinny-dip in the sea, you could be out of luck. Nudists call it a "tremendous setback."
The nudist community worries that the ...

Oct 29th, 2009 at 8:30AM: Neighbors of Domain Farm, a recently opened naturist Bed and Breakfast in Staffordshire, England, are complaining about seeing more than they want to of the guests.
The B&B is a converted farm and features a sun deck, hot tub, and barbeque area, and while it's set in a rural landscape, it is within sight of other homes. This brings it into the ongoing controversy, not limited to naturism, ...

Jul 2nd, 2009 at 12:00PM: Keith Wright, a New Yorker (damn!) felt restricted by more than just cramped airline seating today. On a flight from Charlotte to Los Angeles, he ditched his clothing and did not respond (vocally, at least) to flight attendant requests to put them back on. The mile-high nudist also wouldn't accept the cover of a blanket.
As a result of Wright's defiance, the US Airways flight was diverted to ...

Mar 31st, 2009 at 12:00PM: Lost your shirt in the market? Thankfully, some destinations will provide service absent one. You won't need shoes ... or pants ... either. Nude tourism is on the rise according to some estimates, and the industry is pegged at $400 million annually. Ready to throw your vacation fund into the mix? Packing, apparently, is easy. Maybe you'll need some sandals or bring a book, and sun block is ...

Feb 2nd, 2009 at 2:00PM: In Switzerland shedding clothes and hitting the trail used to be fine and dandy. Nude hiking was allowed. Not any more. That fun has ended. In a move to protect children from seeing those body parts usually located in places where the sun doesn't shine, the Swiss government has made a law, at least in the Appenzell Innerrhoden canton, that nude hiking isn't allowed.
It sounds like this was a rush ...

Sep 7th, 2008 at 11:00AM: There are some people who are determined to not wear clothes in the great outdoors. There are the people who do naked rock climbing, people who hang out on a nude beach (or play volleyball in the buff on a beach like those I saw once in Greece), people who sky dive nude, dance in the nude, go on cruises in the nude, and, like this German guy I read about, people who prefer to hike in nothing but a ...

Sep 3rd, 2008 at 12:00PM: Just last week a judge ruled that sunbathing in the nude at San Onofre State Beach in San Diego is still allowed.
Earlier this summer there was a brouhaha because the California Department of Parks and Recreation wanted to ban nude sunbathing, even though beaching it in the buff has been allowed here for decades.
The parks and recreation department said that some sunbathers were being lewd near ...

Feb 28th, 2007 at 11:04AM: Sometimes, the best vacations are those in which the traveler can let his or her down, unwind, and put it all away -- literally. If you're looking for a place to let it all hang out, then you might want to check out our list of some of the world's best clothing-optional resorts. In addition to being quite liberating, bear in mind (ha ha), that packing for these detinations should be very, very ...

Jun 17th, 2006 at 10:26AM: Many of you may not know where Pasco Country, FL is, but I know its location quite well. It's about 20 miles away from my homes digs in Tampa, FL and to my surprise a booming spot for nude tourism. According to this USA Today piece popular nudie resorts like Paradise Lakes, Lake Como and Caliente Resort and Spa are doing all they can to bring in more tourists. Whether it's family-style with ...
