Nov 25th, 2009 at 9:00AM: Daily life is a struggle in Myanmar. For the average local, working days are filled with long hours of backbreaking manual labor, meager pay and no weekends or vacation time. Considering this exhausting schedule, festivals and holidays are special times - a chance to kick back, relax and let loose. In Myanmar's Shan State, one of the most important of these festivities is the annual Taunggyi ...

Sep 6th, 2009 at 6:00PM: Taking good photos of fireworks is no easy feat. The darkness, rapid movement and distance all conspire to confuse your average digital camera. As a result, many fireworks photos come out blurry and disappointing. All the more reason then, for selecting today's fabulous fireworks shot from Flickr user Aseem01, who caught this colorful burst in Ota-ku, Japan. Fun fact: in Japan, they call ...

Jan 23rd, 2009 at 5:30PM: January 26 comes with two huge events this year: the lunar new year (or Chinese New Year, for those of you lion dance and firework lovers) and the first solar eclipse of the year! The lunar new year of the earth ox is the second zodiac of the cycle. It is the craziest time to travel to China this time of year, and unless you have a really important reason to be in Shanghai or Beijing or you ...

Sep 4th, 2008 at 1:30PM: This picture taken by jrodmanjr of a fireworks display in San Francisco really caught my eye. Notice how the bright lights coming from the Bay Bridge create a bit of a vignette around the picture. The low light makes it tough to get a super crisp shot in these situations, but jrodmanjr did a nice job with this one. Every picture in his photostream could qualify for a Photo of the Day! Are you a ...

Jun 26th, 2008 at 9:00AM: The winner of our photo of the day for today is from Dave and Chi who captured this display from the annual fireworks competition just outside of Paris in Chantilly. He calls it "Nuit de Feu - Yellow Sky" Amazingly, our crew ALMOST went to this display on June 14th. I had plans to capture just this kind of picture. But I know that Dave and Chi probably did a much better job than I could. There's ...

May 22nd, 2008 at 4:20PM: As a New Yorker, I sometimes tend to get a bit jaded about the incredible sights all around me. Times Square might be cool to visitors, but to me it's nothing but gaudy neon and schlocky souvenirs. United Nations? Pretty neat, but quite a headache when you're trying to get to work on the East Side and some diplomat's motorcade makes you take the "long walk" to the office. But then today, I noticed ...

Jul 4th, 2006 at 4:05PM: It's Fourth of July all and I'm in one of the hottest, driest destinations on the planet -it's titled Arizona. So my chances of seeing mischievous children playing with dazzling little sparklers or missile size fireworks are pretty slim. Any boom, pop, crackle, snap, sizzle, ray of bursting light into the Arizona night sky is considered illegal and as desperate as I am to have a piece of the magic ...
