Apr 19th, 2012 at 9:00AM: For some, life couldn't be any more perfect than if they were paid to travel. I've run across three airline crew members who have discovered ways to keep their jobs fresh and exciting by embracing what is for them the biggest benefit that comes with working for an airline: travel.
You hear about the turbulence in the airline industry nearly every week – layoffs, pay cuts, pensions lost ...

Mar 22nd, 2012 at 2:00PM: The Internet has brought us many ways to research and book hotels at prices much lower than the hotels' published rate. Aggregate sites like Kayak and Orbitz give you the best available rate (BAR) without pre-payment on a specific hotel, while "opaque" sites like Priceline and Hotwire allow you to bid for a room below BAR but the actual property remains hidden until after you book and the purchase ...

Called Evolve: The New Southwest Interior, Southwest Airlines introduced a new cabin layout this week at their Dallas headquarters. Due to be rolled out fleet-wide over the next year, the plan will cut 635 pounds off each plane and add six seats per aircraft in an eco-friendly way.
Many of the new developments were fabricated using products and manufacturing processes that favor the ...

Food fights are not restricted to your high school cafeteria anymore. And best of all, you won't get detention for chucking produce at someone's head. In fact, at the traveling Tomato Battle events, tomato throwing is actually encouraged as a giant tomato fight is part of the event's main attractions. Attendees can also enjoy delicious brews from the beer garden, costume contests, and live ...

Oct 20th, 2011 at 12:00PM: HipHost, a new "peer-to-peer marketplace for socially-hosted local tours", not only gives travelers a way to experience new cities from a local's point of view, but also gives people an opportunity to make extra cash.
Anyone who wants to share their local knowledge can be a HipHost and design a tour based on anything they find interesting. Some tour topics include art, culture, fitness, ...

Nine US airports have been approved for charter flights to Cuba, Reuters reported this morning. The Cuban travel agency Havanatur Celimar made the announcement on Friday.
The US government forbids commercial flights between the United States and Cuba, so all air travel between the two countries has to proceed on charter planes. The Obama Administration has already removed all restrictions ...

STUCK from Joe Ayala on Vimeo.
If you've ever been stuck in any airport overnight, you'll appreciate this video titled STUCK. When Larry Chen and Joe Ayala found themselves stranded overnight in the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport, they decided to have a little bit of fun with their predicament. The two filmed themselves at the airport, making the best of the overnight stay. I was once stuck ...

Ahh... travel. It can be such a magnificent, wonderful thing. Exploring other cultures, visiting beautiful destinations, and sampling local cuisines are all magically sublime experiences. But when things don't quite go as planned, it can be an extremely frustrating affair. One that makes us wonder why we ever left home in the first place.
I received a sobering reminder of this little fact ...

Super Bowl XLV. It was most certainly one for the record books. Well over 100,000 people flowed into Cowboys Stadium in the heart of North Texas to watch two of the NFL's most storied teams do battle. The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers put on an amazing spectacle, and I was able to take part in one small way. I made my way into Arlington for Super Bowl Media Day -- a frenzied event ...

Jan 25th, 2011 at 2:00PM: It's been a long, hard road, but the Packers have finally bested their rivals to the south and made it into the Super Bowl. Congratulations. Now it's time to pack up the queso dip, send the kids to their grandparents and make your way down to Dallas for the showdown.
Texas! The very word brings a tidal wave of emotions. It's a whole new ball game down there – different food, different ...

Jan 19th, 2011 at 2:00PM: Whether or not your favorite NFL team will play the Super Bowl is irrelevant. What matters is where you'll watch the game. The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas, is making things easy for you by offering month-long football promotions in partnership with Fearing's Restaurant.
With Super Bowl XLV scheduled to take place February 6, 2011 at Cowboys Stadium near Dallas, the luxury hotel and its neighboring ...

Dec 15th, 2010 at 12:00PM: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is about to get a little sexier. The seventh-busiest airport in the world, with more than 5.7 million passengers passing through it every year (as of 2008), will soon be home to a new gentlemen's club.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "airport" strip clubs are usually heinous places. Not far from the airport, they usually attract the lowest of talent and ...

If you've been reading Gadling in the last week, you're probably aware that Virgin America launched their first mid-continent destination just one week ago in the heart of Texas. I don't think I actually understood the implications of Virgin America's launch into "fortress-hub" Dallas/Fort Worth until we touched down on the tarmac.
As we taxied to our gate, I could see nothing but a endless row of silver fuselages; all adorned with the iconic blue & red "AA" logo. It felt almost as if we were silently making our way through the front gates of a modern-day Troy. ...

Watch out Dallas; the original maverick has come to town. Today, Virgin America officially kicked off its brand new service from LAX & SFO to Dallas Fort Worth with an inaugural flight & tarmac reception hosted by Sir Richard Branson and Dallas mayor, Tom Leppert.

Nov 24th, 2010 at 3:30PM: We know that today and tomorrow, traffic is going to be brutal. With 42 million people traveling for the holiday – and 94 percent of them going by car – it's inevitable that someone's going to wind up frustrated. Throw in some nasty weather and highway construction, not to mention a handful of screaming kids, and you have a formula for misery.
Can it get any worse? The Weather ...

Nov 18th, 2010 at 12:30PM: Richard Branson is widely known for many things, among them his endless charitable contributions. So, it's no surprise that when Branson's Virgin America wants to make a statement, they enlist the help of one of the top charity groups in the nation.

Oct 17th, 2010 at 9:00AM: Okay, it has to be hard to turn a nonagenarian away from a restaurant, right? How about one who's a decorated World War II hero who spent two years in a POW camp and five of his buddies? Well, this is what happened at the up-market Five Sixty restaurant, a Wolfgang Puck property in Dallas.
Their transgression: failing to meet the dress code.
The vets were holding their annual reunion; they ...
