Jul 14th, 2011 at 3:00PM: What's that you say? Summer's half over? Those of us living here in the Pacific Northwest had no idea, given the lack of sun in these parts. But even if you're getting slapped by the mother of all heat waves, it's still early in the season for the best produce summer has to offer. As for where to get great food featuring locally-sourced ingredients? Allow me.
Some cities are inextricably linked ...

Jul 8th, 2011 at 10:00AM: To borrow a phrase, Telluride (and I mean this in the best possible way) is a little drinking town with a big ski problem. I've lived there off and on since 2005, and recently returned for a visit for the first time in two years.
Telluride--a former mining town--has never had a shortage of places to imbibe, but getting a well-made cocktail for under ten bucks is another story. Fortunately, ...

Jun 22nd, 2011 at 4:30PM: Boulder, Colorado, is an anomaly when it comes to the complicated relationship between mountain towns and great food. Whether it's a slice of pizza or a charcuterie plate; a well-crafted cocktail, or just a damn good cup of coffee, it's generally hard to find quality ingredients and skilled artisans, chefs, and cooks to produce them in enticing high-altitude settings. Ski towns are a prime ...

The chosen one will travel across the country attending concerts, reporting from the road, interviewing celebrities, and "celebrating the season of the sun."

Jun 4th, 2010 at 3:30PM: This drink is no joke.
The Fire Pit Bloody Mary is part of the Wyndham's Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa's new "Caliente Cocktails" and the Puerto Rico hotel is already staking claim that it's the spiciest drink in the world.
The Fire Pit Bloody Mary's key ingredient is the fiery Indian bhut jolokia chile pepper. It boosts a ranking of more than one million Scoville units (the measurement of ...

Jan 28th, 2010 at 10:00AM: Kimpton's offering you two ways to spend Valentine's Day in Manhattan this year: one if you're inclined to recognize the holiday, the other if you're flying solo. Let's face it; Valentine's day isn't designed to appeal to everyone, and the single folks shouldn't get screwed just because the only way they could get a "date" that night involves several appearances by Benjamin Franklin.
If you're ...

Jul 27th, 2009 at 1:30PM: One of my favorite bars in Chicago, the Violet Hour, can be a bit difficult for first-timers to find. There's no sign, no address, no windows, and upon first glance, no bar there at all. But if you look more closely at the boarded up storefront, you'll see there is a door. And once inside it, you'll be transported to another world - one where cell phones are not allowed, where plush curtains ...

Jun 24th, 2009 at 10:00AM: As both Grant and Scott have mentioned recently, Virgin Atlantic is celebrating its 25th year in operation. As we've come to realize here at Gadling, the team at Virgin Atlantic is never one to turn down an opportunity to party. This past Monday in New York City, the Virgin crew once again made good on this reputation for star-studded celebration, inviting friends and family together for a raucous ...

Dec 12th, 2008 at 2:00PM: According to Genevieve Swart of The Sydney Morning Herald, the term sundowner, meaning sunset cocktail, originated in Africa, where they have some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Swart has taken special pains (and pleasures) in finding the most beautiful places on the planet for sundowners. Her list includes hotel and restaurant locations in Cape Town, Santorini, Zanzibar, Norway, ...

You can now donate to HIV and AIDS charities by getting sauced at Kimpton hotels and restaurants all across the U.S. and Canada. Aug 15th, 2007 at 8:30AM: Beautiful landscape? Check. Stunning beaches? Check. Amazing culture? Check. Booze? Nope, sorry. Wait, no booze? Forget it. I'll just go to Thailand. This checklist is what Indonesian trade ministry officials are worried is going through your mind as you consider a trip to the tropical island of Bali.
