Sep 7th, 2011 at 8:00AM: Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, and although the season will linger for a few more weeks, it is time to start looking ahead to the fall. Autumn brings crisp air, cooler temperatures, and shorter days, and along with it comes a rainbow of colors splashed across the trees. It is a perfect time to visit one of America's national parks, as thinning crowds bring solitude and silence to ...

Who doesn't want to roll around England's countryside in a VW van, stopping to read and set up camp between lush rolling hills? Sometimes the idea of living by way of van, by way of the road, seems too far-fetched to travel-loving dreamers out there. I'm here to tell you... it is not far-fetched! Buy a van! Move into it! Drive! Explore! Use exclamation marks as often as possible; it will show ...

Aug 23rd, 2011 at 2:00PM: 600 dollars for vaccinations, that's what I spent in preparation for an upcoming trip to Tanzania. A pile. Still, it's better than the alternative: getting a near fatal or certainly trip ruining illness. Now that the sticker shock has eased and I've got full use of my arm again, I've turned to gathering my belongings for an upcoming safari trip.
Here's a round up of what's in my bag.
A ...

This video is baffling. It's a group of Brits on a camping trip, yet it appears as if they have just set up camp in someone's backyard (isn't that a house behind the fence?). Why is that guy hitting the other guy in the head with a pan? What's the deal with that second fence made of fabric? We might have more questions than answers, but summer is for camping trips and camping trips are for ...

Jul 17th, 2011 at 8:00AM: Visitors to Yellowstone National Park this summer have an unexpected option when it comes to choosing where to stay. Typically this time of year the park's campsites are booked solid and impossible to get into without a reservation made months in advance. But unusually heavy spring snows has led to a high number of cancellations and a low level of occupancy, meaning there are plenty of campsites ...

Jul 11th, 2011 at 8:00AM: Summer camping is one of the best ways to enjoy the warmer weather that comes along with that season. The days are long, allowing for plenty of time to take in your favorite outdoor activities, and the nights are cool, but comfortable, making it the perfect time to sleep outside. As usual with any camping trip however, the gear you use plays an important role in how much you enjoy the experience, ...

Autumn is always a special time in Yellowstone National Park as the trees begin to display their brilliant fall colors before they shed their leaves altogether. The cooler temperatures put the wildlife on the move once again and the crisp air makes it a perfect time to explore the mountain trails. It doesn't hurt that the crowds drop off dramatically as well, providing a true sense of solitude ...

Last year for my annual "Oh crap another birthday I need to prove my youth" long-distance hiking adventure, I chose Scotland's East Highland Way. It runs 78 miles from Ft. William through some beautiful countryside to Aviemore. The route had just been created by hiker Kevin Langan, and was so new there wasn't a guidebook. Kevin was kind enough to send me maps and a summary preprint of his book ...

Bonnaroo 2011 is bound to be fun. I say this with confidence because I packed a car (and a cooler) and pitched my(embarrassingly huge, but purchased as a gift by my mother) tent at Bonnaroo last year. I had scored some V.I.P. passes to the festival last minute and decided, without much hesitation, that it was about time I experienced a camping music festival for myself. As soon as I rolled into ...

Apr 11th, 2011 at 1:00PM: Despite the fact that spring is off to a chilly start here in the Northeast, we've begun to plan some camping trips for the upcoming summer.
