I swear I have been there before, although I have never been at St. Maarten's. You are trying to enjoy the beach and there is a giant plane landing right over your head. Kinda takes the romance out of it. Or, as the photographer, matt.hintsa, says: "Forget sharks, big waves, and rip currents. You might get hit by an A340!" That's two in a row for Matt! While I've never been there (yet!), apparently, the Princess Juliana International Airport on the island of St. Maarten is so close to the beach that this is a regular occurrence. The airport pre-dates the hotels that now surround it.
I wonder if the flight attendants say, "please fasten your seatbelts and apply your sunscreen, in preparation ...
