Aug 25th, 2011 at 11:30AM: I've been following Gawker's newest series, The Worst 50 States. I've been enjoying following this series. In an effort to pin down not only the best states in the US of A, but, more importantly, the worst states, Gawker compiled a Gawker-invented rating system in order to rank our fair fifty. Granted, this rating system consists solely of the viewpoints of those on staff for Gawker, so the ...

Put the stress and pressure of the workday behind you. This is exactly what was on my mind a few weeks ago. I needed to get away from the daily grind for a bit, and the back roads of New England were calling. I wanted something quiet, remote and relaxing. New Hampshire came to mind immediately.
It had been a while since my last trip to New Hampshire – close to 20 years since my last ...

For some, the word "hiking" leads to unpleasant thoughts. There are visions of heavy backpacks, ropes and buckets of sweat pouring off your body. For those not in the best of shape, it seems like an unfortunate way to spend a vacation. After all, the purpose of getting away from the daily grind is to recharge, not to wear yourself out.
This sort of thinking can be unfortunate. Not all hiking ...

Okay, if you follow my work, you know by now that I need to try a hot dog everywhere I go. Sometimes, it's far more fun to eschew upscale and go right for the lowest common denominator. On my trip to the White Mountains last weekend, I wasn't expecting to indulge. After all, the region, in New Hampshire, is only a few hours from where I grew up ... how could I find something worth actually ...

Next year, New Englanders will be thrilled, or terrified, by an ultra-steep new roller coaster opening at New Hampshire's Canobie Lake Park. In 2011, the historic park will be home to a modern thrill machine in Untamed. Untamed was designed by German roller coaster designers Gerstlauer. It will be one of the designer's Euro-Fighter 320+ models that have currently only been built in Europe. For ...

Leaf-peepers are about to hit the road in force – as they always do this time of year. While soaking in the burning foliage colors with your eyes, it's only too easy to forget you're behind the wheel, a situation that can lead to disastrous consequences. There are some states where beautiful foliage and deer prancing on the streets just seem to go together, according to a study by insurance ...

Jun 24th, 2010 at 3:00PM: On an oppressive day like today (which for me is any day over 80 degrees), New Hampshire starts to sound incredibly attractive. It's a bit cooler than New York – to the point where you can actually feel it. Throw in an upscale dining experience, and that's all the reason you need for a weekend getaway!
Head up to the Wentworth by the Sea in New Hampshire to escape the baking heat of the ...

Jun 15th, 2010 at 11:30AM: Road trips are meant to be fun, meaningful, and inspire some reflection as you set out for the great open roads. When the driving gets a little dull, though, there's plenty to see on the side of the road.
The eastern portion of the United States is home to many world-recognized sites, but many of these grandiose tourist destinations overshadow the lesser-known, roadside attractions that are ...

Jun 11th, 2010 at 11:30AM: Lighthouse Bay Resort, an exquisite Barbuda resort recently tipped by Vanity Fair's George Wayne as an appropriately majestic honeymoon location for Prince William and Kate Middleton, already cocoons its guests in utter bliss.

Jun 10th, 2010 at 2:00PM: The big national parks are popular for a reason, but here are 10 other national parks and forests you may not have visited, and some fun activities to do while you are there. Consider one of these off-the-beaten-path parks for your summer round-trip:
Acadia National Park is a beautiful piece of the Maine coastline. Bring your alarm clock so you can wake early and hike to the top of Cadillac ...

Apr 27th, 2010 at 12:00PM: Nothing goes with summer quite like the cracking of lobster shells (and wearing a bib, even if you're a grown man). You can get a lobster anywhere, but if you're within a few hours of the New England coast, the whole experiences changes dramatically. This summer, four hotels are willing to give you and your guest a free lobster dinner when you stay only one night. Of course, it isn't a lobster ...

Last month, the writers at Gadling spent a lot of time at the pub, creating this list of The 24 greatest cities in the world for drinking beer. We had so much fun and got so many great comments, we decided we couldn't stop: we headed back to the bar and asked for another round. Here's 15 more of our favorite cities in the world for drinking great beer. Did we include your favorite? Take a ...

Mar 24th, 2010 at 1:30PM: Winter's starting to turn into spring up in New England, which means pristine white landscapes turn into a brown slop. What do you do with it? The answer might be to smear it all over your body? Well, that's what The Wentworth by the Sea has in mind. This New Hampshire inn has put together a great package that makes the most of the muddy season.

Feb 1st, 2010 at 8:00AM: New Hampshire's Mt. Washington has long been hailed as having the "worst weather on the planet". The summit is regularly pounded with high levels of precipitation and snow storms are a routine occurrence every month of the year, with annual snow fall averaging over 21 feet of accumulation. The place is also well known for its high winds, and for more than six decades, it has held the record for ...

Dec 20th, 2009 at 10:30AM: Virgin America and American Airlines are rescuing Chihuahuas from California by the dozens. As it turns out, California is not a place to be a Chihuahua. There are just too many of them. When Chihuahuas became the dog flavor of the day, thanks to the movies "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and "Legally Blond," and the Chihuahua carrying habits of celebrities like Paris Hilton, dog breeders overshot the ...

Oct 26th, 2009 at 10:00AM: There once was a time when family vacations meant loading up the car and hitting the road for a camping trip that involved setting up a big canvas tent or parking a silver Airstream camper in a vaguely wooded area, and enjoying some time in the great outdoors. It was a simpler time, when mom packed sandwiches in a wicker picnic basket, or dad helped cook dinner by sliding a hot dog on to a stick ...
