Sep 21st, 2011 at 10:00AM: There's something really depressing about seeing the last of the tomatoes, corn, and stonefruit at the farmers market, the withering vines in my neighbor's gardens. But fall is also an exciting time for produce geeks, what with all the peppers and squash, pomegranates and persimmons.
If you love yourself some good food and drink, here are five reasons to welcome fall. No matter where you live ...

Nov 30th, 2010 at 1:30PM:
I work part-time in a cheese shop, and I'm also a contributing editor at culture, a consumer cheese magazine. I can't help noticing that, despite a still-sluggish economy, people don't want to do without their cheese. Especially if they've fallen for a specific type during their (usually European) travels.
Not everyone who bellies up to the counter is a globetrotter or a cheese geek, but ...

Summer is upon us, and that means it's time for road trips. Even with gasoline prices nudging the three dollar mark, there's no better way to spend a summer day or weekend than taking part in the American tradition of a great drive. With that in mind, Gadling has put together 39 great drives across the U.S. you'll want to check out. So grab your keys and get out on the open road!

Nov 27th, 2009 at 2:30PM: The folks over at the LA Times have rounded up a few more great travel deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And what better way to recoup from this most hellish of shopping weekends than by looking forward to a discounted vacation?
Shell's Vacation Hospitality's Black Friday Sale runs today with discounts of up to 50% off at 26 of its resorts located in Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, New ...

Aug 31st, 2009 at 12:00PM: When most people think of going on a wine-tasting trip, their thoughts tend to head west - to California, Washington, and Oregon. It's not surprising. From Napa Valley in California to Walla Walla in Washington, these states are some of the biggest producers of wine in the US. But if you don't live in one of these states, there's no need to venture far from home for a weekend of swirling and ...

Apr 12th, 2009 at 4:00PM: I realize that, on the world stage, our homeland isn't exactly the most popular place right now. Part of it stems from eight years of political buffoonery, and a healthy dose comes from traditional "old world" bias against the United States. Like most of us, I've learned to adjust for a touch of this when I read international news coverage. To a certain extent, I understand it ... we're more like ...

Dec 21st, 2008 at 3:00PM: Take a beating in the stock market this year? There's nothing quite like a dose of financial abuse to make you want to disappear to wine country for a week or two. While you're out there, though, it may pay to turn your head back to investing, if only briefly. Lease or buy a vineyard-or just hide in a villa for a weeks-with a bit of help from BeautifulPlaces.
Sorry for the reality check, but this ...

Oct 1st, 2007 at 2:30PM: There are only a few things better than firing up the Harley Heritage Softtail (with a Springer front fork, rented this weekend) and heading out for a motorcycle ride through Napa and Sonoma Counties in now-sunny California, where I happen to be right now. It's the middle of the wine harvest, most of the tourists are gone, and the weather is perfect, so the locals head out to see the harvest in ...

Jun 12th, 2007 at 7:02PM: I'm a bit of a video snob, but I love wine, so I was a bit conflicted watching this new video from the good folks at Travelistic. The video, part of a series called Places in America takes us on a tour of the Fess Parker winery in Northern California. We even get to meet Fess Parker himself, a one-time movie star (remember the black and white Daniel Boone?), though that aspect of who he is is ...

Jun 3rd, 2007 at 8:09AM: Sir, that tastes like a Chardonnay grape, sir! Chardonnay?! You don't know a Pinot Grigio when it hits your worthless palate, scumbag? Now, drop and sip me twenty! Or so the dialogue might go if you were to attend a session of Wine Boot Camp, a new twist on the age-old experience of wine tasting. Myself, I love a good wine, and I adore wine country, and if I have to bang out fifty push-ups to ...

Sep 11th, 2006 at 7:50PM: When you're planning your trip to visit the incredibly lovely Bordeaux region of France, you'll simply have to cast off your urge to bring along your backpack and camp. Bordeaux must be done haut-style.
Whether you arrive in Bordeaux via the TGV from Paris or by plane into the Bordeaux airport (Merignac), head north out of the city, and you're right in the Medoc region. I can give a strong ...
