Aug 1st, 2010 at 4:00PM: In the United States, finding ways to accommodate oversized passengers may be the subject of uneven enforcement, but in Australia, it's uncharted territory. In fact, this in-flight service problem is so ignored that the terminology isn't even standard. According to Virgin Blue, being too grande for the seat is considered an impairment, while Tiger Airways isn't sure if it's a "comfort" issue or a ...

Jun 2nd, 2010 at 3:00PM: JetStar seems to know that in-flight entertainment is nothing to scream about right now. You watch canned programming from a small screen. Fun. For a low-cost carrier, you'd think that fixing this problem isn't a priority, but it looks like the little guys are coming up with the best ideas. The airline is getting ready to test the iPad as in-flight entertainment. Access is expected to cost A$10 ...

Dec 4th, 2009 at 3:30PM: Guide dogs are nothing new. Most commonly known for helping people who are blind navigate the world around them, they are gaining use in helping people with other types of disabilities. Also called service dogs, some are now being used by war veterans with post traumatic stress disorders. The more service dog use increases, the more likely they will be part of the traveler's scene. Unfortunately, ...

Oct 8th, 2009 at 8:30AM: Australian airline Jetstar has recently apologized to Sunshine Coast-to-Melbourne passenger Elizabeth, who got a little more than she asked for on her flight. Elizabeth's 15-year-old daughter was harassed on Facebook by a male Jetstar flight attendant who met her on the plane, and reportedly got her name from her boarding pass. The 15-year-old, whose 16-year-old sister was also on the flight, ...

May 7th, 2009 at 8:00AM: Australian low-cost carrier Jetstar has been fined nearly AU$150,000 (US$112,000) for the "wanton and deliberate" breach of Sydney Airport's curfew. From 11pm to 6am, takeoffs and landings are prohibited – except when permission is granted. So, imagine the anguish caused when Jetstar flight JQ37's wheels went up at 11:28pm!
It gets worse.
The flight had been delayed for seven hours, ...

Feb 23rd, 2009 at 2:00PM: Jetstar doesn't deal with pressure well. Whether it's the weight of a hefty passenger slowing down the plane or a deluge of traffic for a sale, the airline just can't seem to get nimble. A deal to kick off its new domestic service in New Zealand led to digital mayhem. The Australian low-cost carrier offered $1 fares on its website. This drew 50,000 bargain-hunters at once, causing the Jetstar ...

Feb 8th, 2009 at 9:00AM: The debate has gone on for years. Larger people have had to deal with shrinking plane seats. We all complain, with the svelte arguing that the not-so-trim should have to purchase an extra seat. I have to be honest, here. I believe that you should pay for what you consume. If you take two seats pay for them. Apparently, low-cost Australian airline Jetstar agrees, with much more zeal than I would ...

Mar 31st, 2008 at 11:00AM: According to Anamaree Correia, a former flight attendant, three Australian soldiers wanted to have bit of fun with her on a Jetstar flight from Sydney to Phukhet, Thailand. This wasn't the flirting kind of fun that leaves you feeling gloriously giddy. This was the giddy that gets you groggy and passed out. Correia said she was sitting next to a soldier with two others in front of her and they must ...

Oct 7th, 2007 at 1:02PM: What happens when flight attendants do their own traveling? That is some of what you'll see if you live in Australia and have access to the new documentary Going Places, a creative marketing tactic from the folks at budget carrier Jetstar. While it's not exactly an Aussie version of Flight Attendant School, the eight-program series (which premiered today on Channel Nine) will follow eight Jetstar ...
