Mar 16th, 2013 at 8:00AM: The thought of going on safari generally conjures up mental images of driving across the African savannah dressed in khaki and wearing a pith helmet while spotting elephants and lions. But did you know that it is possible to get a true safari experience in North America, without having to endure a very long trans-Atlantic flight?
Luxury travel company The Clear Creek Group is now offering the ...

Sep 13th, 2011 at 10:00AM: Visitors to the Grand Tetons National Park visitor center got a very unpleasant surprise recently when a can of bear spray was inadvertently discharged inside the building. The incident prompted an immediate evacuation of the entire facility, as the potent pepper spray soon spread throughout the center.
Apparently, one of the park's rangers was preparing for a morning program in the visitor ...

Feb 24th, 2011 at 8:00AM: Back in early January we posted our suggestions for the best adventure travel destinations for 2011, with places like Ethiopia, Croatia, and Guyana all earning a nod. While we gave plenty of praise to those exotic locales, we also gave a big tip of the hat to the good ole' U.S. of A. as well. We went on to espouse the virtues of adventure travel right here at home, which includes not only plenty ...

Oct 4th, 2010 at 12:00PM: I dashed off to Jackson Hole for a few days not too long ago. Driven by the need to unwind for a bit and a decade-long desire to visit the setting of some of my favorite novels (by Tim Sandlin), I set my sights on the Grand Tetons and didn't look back. What I found upon my arrival at the Jackson Lake Lodge, one of the three hotels in the area run by the Grand Teton Lodge Company, was an unexpected ...

Apr 26th, 2010 at 2:00PM: The best part of all-inclusive trips is that the thinking is taken out of the equation. Want a second drink? Hell, a second entrée? Go for it! There's no reason not to ... because the bill is already paid. I had my first brush with the all-inclusive concept last summer, and I'm sold on it, especially since I get impatient while waiting for the bill (when the meal's over, I just want to get ...

Mar 4th, 2010 at 8:00AM: 2009 was a banner year for America's National Park System, which remained popular with travelers, both foreign and domestic, despite the sluggish economy. U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar recently announced that the parks experienced 10 million more visitors last year than they did in 2008, which represented a 3.9 percent increase.

Sep 24th, 2009 at 10:30AM: Even with the best of plans, tragedies happen. A mountain side is too steep, the terrain too rugged, one turns left instead of right, and a person can take a tumble. That's what happened on Tuesday when two hikers veered slightly off-course on Teewinot Mountain in the Grand Teton National Park. One of them slipped and tumbled 300-feet. The tumble killed him.
According to Kurt Repanshek's post in ...

Jul 12th, 2009 at 8:00AM: When the pressure cooker of daily professional live is about to squeeze the last out of tolerance out of your body ... go fishing. From what I hear, there are plenty of those meals-waiting-to-happen in the Snake River, and is there a better way to feel good than catching and eating a fish? Okay, you can probably tell that I'm not a fisherman (did it once 20 years ago and thought it sucked), but I ...

Jul 8th, 2009 at 1:00PM: Today, the Hotel Terra Jackson Hole just got a hell of a lot bigger. A new addition is now open for business, increasing the property's size by a whopping 68,000 square feet. Look for 60 new guestrooms and 4,200 square feet of meeting space. An infinity plunge pool now sits atop a rooftop terrace, and the Chill Spa now has a cutting-edge fitness facility.
The guestrooms are a mix of basic, Urban ...

Jun 6th, 2009 at 12:00PM: More than 3,000 TripAdvisor readers in the United States have selected the top 10 national parks. Big shock: nine out of 10 are out west. Only Maine made it onto the list. But, let's face it – if you want big, impressive national parks, you have leave the East Coast.
These readers are definitely interested in the national park scene. More than 70 percent plan to visit one this year, up ...

Flickr user Darren.Murph took this beautiful shot (click to enlarge) of the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, where, I would imagine, it's pretty difficult to take a bad picture. Many thanks to the photographer for providing me with my new desktop background. [Your royalty check is in the mail.]

There's a part of me that hates when summer is over until I think about the fall days up ahead that will look like this one. Not quite like this one--this is on the Snake River in the Grand Teton National Park, a far piece from Ohio. I love the soft dreamy quality of the reflections in the water contrasted with the brittle look of the foliage. The kayakers are the transition between the two. ...

Sep 27th, 2007 at 1:30PM: This is one photo that really speaks for itself. I mean, what can I really say? It's clear, beautiful, nicely balanced. Shhhh! This is just one of those perfect moments where the sports announcer knows to shut up and let the visual speak for itself. So, I'm shutting up. I will however, give a nod to BonnieBrowne for capturing such perfection. ...

Oct 29th, 2006 at 9:53PM: Perhaps this site has made the Gadling pages before, but at the same time I'm willing to bet we've somehow managed to look over this fine jewel packed with National Park info. A buddy of mine who happens to be good pals with one of the creators of the USA-C2C venture pointed it out to me a few days back and after accessing the very thorough and detailed information, I must recommend that anyone ...
