Oct 24th, 2009 at 5:00PM: When picking out a haunted house to go to for Halloween fun with kids, it helps to know your child. Even then, it may not be a guarantee of a good time. When we headed into the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World a few days before my son's 6th birthday, I envisioned a shriek or two followed by chortles of glee--the mark of a delicious and welcome fright.
After all, his sister loved that ride ...

Halloween is the one day a year we seek fear rather than try to avoid it. We invite the prospect of ghosts, witches and vampires, and even if we concede that they aren't real, it's fine to suspend disbelief for a day. To heighten the sensation, ...

Oct 2nd, 2009 at 10:00AM: There are thousands of videos posted to the Internet each day - but every now and then you come across one that just makes your jaw drop. Such is the case with the Disney video published above. October 1st was the Magic Kingdom's birthday, and to celebrate, Disney shot a video showing a day in the life of the Magic Kingdom park at Walt Disney World. This isn't just any boring old video - it was ...

Volunteer one day of your time next year, and you could receive a free day of admission at a Walt Disney theme park in return. The Disney company has announced that one million people who volunteer with the HandsOn Network can get into any Disneyland Park in ...

Aug 12th, 2009 at 12:00PM: John William Moyer, a 60-year-old visitor to Walt Disney World probably won't be welcome at the theme park any longer. The Cressona, Pennsylvania resident was convicted of feeling up Minnie Mouse (yes, there are people inside those suits). Moyer claimed he was innocent, and his son vouched for him, saying that his father would never touch a woman inappropriately.
Meanwhile, the victim reveals, ...

Aug 4th, 2009 at 5:00PM: Prices are about to go up at Disney World, but the company is keeping the increases reasonable. Theme park multi-day admission prices will increase by 2.5 percent to 5.3 percent, depending on the nature of the passes. In 2006, when the economy was strong, the park hiked prices 16 percent.
The money has to come from somewhere. Hotel bookings are down 7 percent for Disney's domestic parks this ...

Jul 29th, 2009 at 4:30PM: OK, this does it - the TSA has finally proven that they are incapable of any rational thought. When 8 year old Jeremiah Ramirez took a trip to Disney World, he did so in order to take his mind off the loss of his father, who died of cancer. What was supposed to be a normal flight back home with some of the toys he purchased at the park, turned into a show of power by the security staff at Ft. ...

May 6th, 2009 at 12:00PM: Why do I always miss the good stuff?
Disney has announced that it's no longer going to scan riders on Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, Space Mountain and California Screamin ... for unfettered chests. Apparently, women are known on these rides from time to time to flash for the camera. Though I've looked for it on each ride, I've never witnessed these public displays of exuberance.
I'm not ...

Apr 20th, 2009 at 7:00PM: French Balloon maker Aérophile just announced the newest attraction for Disney World. Their 105 foot high "Characters in Flight" balloon will soar 400 feet over Downtown Disney, and can carry up to 30 passengers in its gondola. When the weather cooperates, passengers will be able to get a 360 degree view for up to 10 miles. The balloon is tethered to a special star shaped landing dock, and ...

Apr 4th, 2009 at 10:00AM: Orland's "Bundles of Free Smiles" campaign just got a little more interesting. Now through the end of June, you can take care of the "Deal of the Week" to squeeze a bit more value out of your trip – up to $100 worth. For the first two weeks of this program, it could be three times that! First, go to VisitOrlando.com/smile by April 17, 2009. Book four nights at the Orlando World Center ...

Feb 23rd, 2009 at 7:00PM: Here's a direct quote: "It would be crazy to spend full price to go to Disney right now," said Mary Waring, founder of MouseSavers.com" I found this tidbit in a Practical Traveler article in the New York Times about cheap travel options for a Disney vacation and more.
Whether you're looking for multiple night stays at a Disney resort or a one-day ticket to an amusement park, the deals have ...

Dec 15th, 2008 at 9:00AM: I read about a couple who bought a sailboat when common sense might have told them not to in this New York Times article awhile ago. Their kids were heading to college, and the economy had begun its rapid trip south. According to the couple, they have no regrets about the boat purchase.
The experiences they've had with their kids and friends on the boat have added to their good memories bank. ...

Sep 19th, 2008 at 10:30AM: If you head to Disneyland or Disney World on your birthday in 2009, you can get in for free. That is a sweet present indeed. What's the rub?
There isn't one from what I can tell after reading the rules. There aren't any hidden tricks.
To get the ticket, register your birthday on-line and a confirmation message will be sent. Then, show up on your birthday with the confirmation message, a proof ...

Aug 18th, 2008 at 1:00PM: First of all, the water park Zoombezi Bay and Disney have nothing to do with each other, but there is a common element in their stories--their businesses have done swimmingly well this summer.
Zoombezi Bay, a new addition to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium opened on Memorial Day. When I was talking with the associate director last Thursday, he said that they are fiscally ahead of where they had ...

Feb 25th, 2008 at 4:20PM: Last week, somewhere, I saw a picture of Harrison Ford with his daughter on a ride at Disneyland. Turns out, according to Marla Matzer Rose who details in an article where to see stars in Los Angeles, Disneyland is a place to keep your eyes open. Here's a shot of Diane Keaton taken two years ago. Interestingly, the only celebrity I've seen in Los Angeles when I've gone there over the years is ...

Feb 12th, 2008 at 12:00PM: I swear every time I read something about the United Arab Emirates development plans, I am amazed. Last week, I read about Masdar, the greenest city in the world, being built in UAE.
Today, I stumbled upon the plans for Dubailand, the world's biggest amusement park in the making. Currently, the largest amusement park in the world is the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, which is also the ...

Jan 10th, 2008 at 3:30PM: The family-oriented Disney World resort became a little less family-friendly recently. Children were once welcome in Disney's posh Victoria & Albert's, the only restaurant with a AAA 5-diamond rating. No more. Evidently, the adults need a break -- and what a better place to take one than in an intimate dining room? Besides, do kids like fancy-schmancy food? I know I didn't when I was a kid. ...

Nov 13th, 2007 at 12:00PM: Here's a new one. Apparently, Disneyland is seeing an increasing number of incidents where park-goers are sneaking in the cremated remains of a loved one, and scattering them around the park. Seriously. "The Haunted Mansion is by far the most popular location for this," writes Miceage.com, "but you'd be surprised where else people are dumping cremated remains at Disneyland." The Haunted Mansion ...

Nov 12th, 2007 at 2:00PM: A while back, Disney World made the decision to ban Segways from the park because "they can go faster than 12 mph" which is a danger to other guests. And now three disabled people are, of course, suing the company. "The suit filed Friday says they're among an estimated 4,000 to 7,000 similarly disabled people who have turned to Segways as mobility tools," according to an article by the AP. Okay, I ...
