This Photo of the Day, titled "Brighten Up Your Day," comes from Gadling Flickr pool member The Delhi Way and looked like an appropriate photo for this time of year when Spring showers are happening in many places
Taken in Delhi India, The Delhi Way says of the image: "One can find the most eclectic things in Delhi. These beautifully embroidered, vibrant umbrellas while being practical, can ...

May 3rd, 2013 at 12:00PM: Two Air India pilots have come under fire after they took a 40-minute break from the cockpit and asked flight attendants to sit in for them. Their stunt almost ended in disaster when one of the flight attendants accidentally turned off autopilot, endangering the lives of the 166 passengers on board, The Mumbai Mirror is reporting.
According to the news outlet, the plane was 30 minutes into a ...

Though Diwali – India's festival of lights – is more than a month away, decorations are already starting to spread through the capital of Delhi. According to Flickr user The Delhi Way, the city will be soon be "glittering in ferry lights, diyas and candles" - traditional symbols of the Hindu holiday, which are intended to make the goddess Lakshmi feel welcome. Other Diwali ...

You can probably tell without any caption that this photo was taken in India, in Old Delhi's Khari Baoli spice market. The combination of bright colors and southeast Asian architecture is uniquely Indian, just hinting at the history and bustle contained within the walls, as the market is the largest in Asia and has been in operation since the 17th century. Flickr user The Delhi Way gives us a ...

This Delhi train shot by Flickr user clee130 is moody and atmospheric. Devoid of color, it is easily distinguished from typical images of India, which turn on vibrant energy. This snapshot of India feels quiet, pensive and utterly subdued.
The image also leaves me with at least two unanswerable questions. Where is this kid going and where did he get that awesome shirt?

Street vendors - you seem them everywhere. From the newsstands of Las Ramblas in Barcelona to the Pad Thai carts of Bangkok, street side commerce is an inevitable, enjoyable part of daily urban life for most of the world. In today's photo, taken by Flickr user clee130, we find a balloon and toy seller in New Delhi, India. The bright colorful orbs create a striking visual focal point to the ...

Behind a lattice gate at the end of an alleyway in India lies the Sufi Islamic dargah shrine to Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki, a renowned mystic, saint and scholar. Flickr user The Delhi Way offers us a tantalizing glimpse at what lies inside this sacred space in today's Photo of the Day, taken in the complex of Qutb on the outskirts of Delhi.

Apr 28th, 2011 at 1:30PM: First, it was underground supper clubs. Now, everything's coming up pop-ups. As with food trucks, this form of guerrilla cheffing borne of economic need has become a global phenomenon. Equal parts dinner party and dinner theater, a pop-up refers to a dining establishment that is open anywhere from one to several nights, usually in an existing restaurant or other commercial food establishment.

Nov 30th, 2010 at 8:00PM:
India is the seventh largest country by geographical area and with a population of 1.18 billion people, it's the second most populous nation in the world. With such an immense concentration of people, unique languages, and religious practice, India has a well known reputation for being a little chaotic at times.
I love this photo for the symbolic dichotomy of chaos; masses of people on the ...

Nov 4th, 2010 at 5:30PM: Another decade is about to bite the dust, but the savvy travelers at Lonely Planet have given us a jump start on the hot list for 2011. They've just announced their picks for the world's best cities to visit next year, and while you'll find some of the usual suspects (New York, which will debut the National September 11 Memorial on the 10th anniversary of the attacks), there are also some ...

Sep 20th, 2010 at 3:00PM: Everyone has their own way of immersing in a culture. Some jump in knees-deep into the food scene, massacring the local food blogs and munching their ways through every gastic adventure that they can find. Others enjoy the philosophical and soft-edged days of lounging in street side cafes, watching passers-by and drinking coffee in the early afternoon sun. Here at Gadling though, we prefer the ...

Oct 29th, 2009 at 3:00PM: It just goes to show that luxury travel may be as enduring as the Taj Mahal. Even in this economy, not one but two luxury trains are debuting in India in the next few months. The Indian Maharaja-Deccan Odyssey, the first privately-operated luxury tourist train in India, will launch on November 18. Its seven-night, eight-day itinerary includes ...

Jan 7th, 2009 at 4:30PM: Let me open by saying that the details of the incident I'm about to write about are sketchy at best. The report comes from an Indian news site, and appears to be translated quite poorly, it's still interesting enough to write about, but I highly recommend reading the source article for a real chuckle. Apparently, the captain of Kingfisher flight IT335 was preparing for his Mumbai to Delhi flight, ...

Nov 10th, 2008 at 9:30AM: After last week's dash in Delhi that ended at the Baha'i House, Starr & Nick were the first ones to head out again into Delhi's traffic for episode 7 of Amazing Race 13. This week's episode was one traffic jam after another and a mix of what makes life in Delhi so darned interesting. Colorful. Literally. It was also an episode where people who are snide don't come out ahead. It's karma, baby, ...

Oct 15th, 2008 at 11:00AM: I spent 29 years on Planet Earth without ever getting a tattoo. Then, in March of this year, I took the plunge. Why? Well, for me, I was finally inspired to get inked because I had an idea that was special to me. It connected me to set of memories that I never wanted to lose and had a unique personal story involving two amazing trips that I had taken.
On the inside of my left forearm I have my ...

Feb 22nd, 2008 at 11:00AM: Plans for a Delhi monorail were approved this week, promising three different lines on 45 kilometers of monorail track. Hopefully hopping on a tram instead of making your way by taxi, or other means, through the congested Delhi streets will be feasible by 2010, the projected year of completion. Who gets to build the monorails remains to be decided. "The government will give options on which bids ...

Dec 1st, 2007 at 10:30AM: If you have ever travelled to India you will agree with me that the strangest of things make it a special place. There is probably no other capital city in the world where monkeys walk around as freely as people. Alongside the "holy" cow, we in India have tremendous respect for monkeys, especially because they are seen as an embodiment of our God Hanuman -- a monkey God from the epic Ramayana. ...

Nov 15th, 2007 at 12:00PM: If there is a country that often takes superstition to different heights, it's India. Throw salt behind you over your shoulder every morning to have a good day; bury your child's first tooth in cow-dung and throw it over your roof -- it will hasten the child's teething process; you can't marry unless your astrological charts match; about 300 million gallons of waste go into the Ganges every day, ...
