Jul 9th, 2010 at 1:00PM: In the travel world, Christopher Elliott is a bit of a hero - on his blog, he regularly saves passengers from lost tickets, rental car horrors and other travel mishaps.
Since there is only one Christopher Elliott, he's started a site designed to aid travelers in resolving some of their own problems. On Your Side is built as a blog and Wiki, which means anyone can add and edit information. The ...

Oct 24th, 2009 at 11:30AM: I'm a one of the those people who always seems to get sick after a long plane ride. A few days post-trip, I suddenly get a runny nose, sore throat and all the other telltale signs of a cold, most likely contracted from a sick passenger. Usually it's minor, and I'm out of commission for only a few days.
I guess I've just been lucky that it hasn't been the flu, because, according to a recent ...

Jun 12th, 2009 at 3:30PM: Hugh Crean is the general manager of Bing Travel, Microsoft's new travel search engine. Microsoft is trying to chip away at Google's search engine dominance, and Bing Travel is part of a multi-pronged effort that also includes shopping and health-related microsites. Crean's company, Farecast, was acquired by Microsoft last year and folded into MSN Travel. I asked Crean about what Bing means to ...

I asked her how to get the most out of your next vacation. Schaler: It's all about changing your attitude by changing your environment. By using travel therapy, visiting different destinations can help you deal with what ...

With the travel season about to take off, I asked him for his thoughts on flying in the summer of 2009. Q: What should air travelers expect this summer? McCartney: I think this will ...

May 8th, 2009 at 11:00AM: John Romantic is the director of customer relations and central baggage resolution at US Airways. But he'd prefer that you simply think of him as your advocate at the airline. For the last nine months, he's had the unenviable job of improving the carrier's checkered reputation for customer service. I asked him how he's doing it. Q: I've been hearing a lot of buzz about some of the changes within ...

May 1st, 2009 at 2:00PM: International travelers know what a formidable barrier a foreign language can be. From time to time, language spills over into the headlines - as it did last week when Fidel Castro insisted his brother's comments about political reform in Cuba were "misunderstood." Tom Adams knows about language barriers and how to overcome them. He's the chief executive of Rosetta Stone. Yeah, the company with ...

Jun 3rd, 2008 at 10:30AM: Whenever I've played the "watch the scale game" at an airline check-in, seeing if I'm a winner without going over 50, the magic number, or if I'll have to pull over to the side and repack, it has never occurred to me that the scale might be off.
According to a airline passenger letter that travel columnist Christopher Elliot received and posted on his blog, one Shawn Rabin discovered that his ...

Apr 17th, 2008 at 10:20AM: How do you connect to the Internet when traveling? If I'm abroad, I'm at the mercy of the hostel or hotel I'm staying at. If their connection is shaky or non-existent, I don't get online without finding a cafe. When traveling domestically here in the U.S., I use my Blackberry as a phone-as-modem (via USB) which offers decent speeds in metropolitan areas. Even in the sticks it works well enough to ...

Mar 10th, 2008 at 12:20PM: Does anyone ever read the fine print when purchasing airfare or booking a hotel room? I'll be honest -- I never do. But Christopher Elliott and his band of smart consumers do, and he wrote a quick piece on "5 travel traps lurking in the fine print." They are,
Caution: our ships may sink
We're not responsible for your checked luggage
Something stolen from your room? Tough luck
We can take ...

Oct 21st, 2007 at 8:45PM: Travel columnist Christopher Elliott is always full of great tips and useful information. We covered his Lessons Learned from Summer 2007 in September as well as his thoughts on airport security. And now I have some more information from him: four new scams from car rental companies.
The first, according to Elliott, involves companies strictly enforcing rules that they were perhaps less strict ...
