After watching the Daytona 500, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at race car themed roller coasters. Although there have been many over the years, for me, these six really stand out. They emphasize speed as they include some of the fastest roller coasters in the World. And, the coasters that I feel deliver the best race car-like experience, also offer intense acceleration and ...

Six Flags Magic Mountain will add two roller coasters and alter an existing coaster in 2011, bringing the park's total to 18. That gives the Valencia, California, theme park the most roller coasters of any theme park in the world, dethroning Ohio's Cedar Point, which has 17.
The first addition is the Green Lantern, is a spinning coaster on a vertical track. It's the first of its kind in the ...

According to KTLA-TV, a ride car leaving the boarding station "rolled back," slamming a second car car inside the station that was boarding other guests.

Oct 3rd, 2009 at 11:00AM: As a child growing up in the Midwest, Autumn always meant the same traditions. Sundays spent raking the leaves from the yard, visits to cider mills, and an annual October trip to Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio.
Cedar Point. . .in October? Yes! If you live in the Midwest, you probably know that Cedar Point stays open on weekends through November 1. If you didn't know, you'll want to plan a ...

Feb 23rd, 2009 at 7:00PM: Here's a direct quote: "It would be crazy to spend full price to go to Disney right now," said Mary Waring, founder of MouseSavers.com" I found this tidbit in a Practical Traveler article in the New York Times about cheap travel options for a Disney vacation and more.
Whether you're looking for multiple night stays at a Disney resort or a one-day ticket to an amusement park, the deals have ...

Sep 26th, 2007 at 11:03AM: Here are is an amusement park I've never been to, but I am sad it is closing. Partly because it holds memories for my husband's family, and partly because it is an indication of how history does change things. It's an era gone by. Geauga Lake, at least the ride section, has seen its last season. Waterparks, like malls that look like small towns, are in in the U.S. (I don't quite get why people ...

Jun 12th, 2007 at 10:51AM: There are two new roller coasters opening this summer with a thrill factor rating of 5, according to the American Coaster Enthusiasts. A 5 means that you're in for a hair-raising treat that is unique from other coasters' offerings.
The Flying Turns is a bobsled ride of sorts. Styled after a roller coaster that was popular in the 1930s to 1950s, this ride is a remake. Two people sit with one in ...

Jun 9th, 2007 at 11:50AM: In the past two weeks my daughter has headed to Cedar Point (with the school percussion ensemble), Kings Island (with her track team) and Fort Rapids, an indoor amusement park (for an end of the 8th-grade bash) and my five-year-old son wants to know when it's his turn. He has a point, but there's the cost to consider. Because my daughter went on school trips, she didn't pay full price. Now, we're ...

May 29th, 2007 at 3:30PM: The day my daughter was at Cedar Point amusement park at a band competition, one of the rollercoaster trains of the Magnum XL-200 roller coaster ran into the back of another one at the station. It didn't stop all the way, but this was barely a fender bender. The thing was going only 10 miles an hour. Still, two people were treated for injuries and one had an asthma attack.
Last year, a month ...

Jan 30th, 2007 at 3:31PM: I grew up in Ohio, about an hour's drive from Cedar Point, the amusement park often ranked as the best in the world. I can remember fearing for my life, and trying not to puke, as I flew hundreds of feet into the air on the park's 17 coasters.
This year there's a new addition to the park: Maverick. The coaster will take riders 105 feet into the air at a 20 degree angle, just before sending them ...
