Trouble in Hawaiian Paradise: A Realist's Point of View {Gadling}

Nov 27th 2008 5:29AM You are spot on there. Went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay last week (a popular snorkeling spot) and while there was an abundance of fish, the reef was in bad shape. While they say don't touch the reef, it's almost impossible to do in choppy water and low tide.

We unfortunately picked the hotel across from the new Trump condos and there is a constant racket of banging all day as they build the thing. Oh well.. still a beautiful state.

Is There Trouble in Hawaiian Paradise? {Gadling}

Nov 23rd 2008 3:54AM Currently vacationing in HI and it doesn't seem less crowded. Restaurants are often full and even the boutique stores seem to be selling plenty of merchandise.

The local paper reported that visitors dropped 10% and some of the hotels are offering massive discounts to HI residents. Not sure if Waikiki is a good representation of HI as a whole though.

No way! Australia beats US as world's fattest nation {Gadling}

Jun 21st 2008 9:52PM It's probably similar in other countries but you find the fatter people out in the suburbs rather than the city. In Melbourne, the city area doesn't have an abundance of fat people but go to an outer suburb such as Werribee (30 minutes from city) and you see a majority of overweight people.

I suppose it could be the reliance on cars outside of the the city areas.

Oh well, it's about time we're better at something than the US.
