Walmart's strange credit card demand {WalletPop}

Oct 21st 2010 9:10AM Clerk, "You need a Wisconsin DL."
Customer, "You need to call your manager over."

As to the "receipt check" at the door.
Wlmart doofus gave stupid answer. The local one checks everybody's tag on the way out. It's a bit of theater to keep the almost honest folks honest and make the shoplifters get more creative.

Savings Experiment: Save big, spend smart on small appliances {WalletPop}

Oct 21st 2010 8:55AM A French press coffee pot for $15.00, less than the price of 3 Ventis at Starbucks? Where are you buying Starbucks? 3 Ventis is $6.00, less tha half the cost of your eBay find.

Starbucks figures customers in cars don't order 'Tall' {WalletPop}

Sep 8th 2010 6:08PM If the smallest size isn't selling at the drive through, why wouldn't Starbucks take it off the outside menu? If you want a "Tall", they'll still make it and sell it.

School Shopping List: Pencils, Notebooks and, Oh Yeah, Your Own Toilet Paper {ParentDish}

Aug 18th 2010 6:02PM And this is news? Folks, out here in CA we parents have been buying cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer, paper towels, hand soap, markers, and even COPIER PAPER for our childrens' classrooms and schools for years.

Green Police: KFC busted for where it gets material for its buckets {WalletPop}

Jun 30th 2010 1:33PM Nice propaganda piece. I don't know of any situation where a company buying a product (like say, KFC buckets) from a third party supplier would be characterized as "partnering" with the supplier.
That's like saying my employer "partners" with Staples because we buy pens there.

Sarah Palin's Luxe Speaking Contract Spurs Investigation in California {Politics Daily}

Apr 14th 2010 12:53PM Four minor points:
1. Leland Yee is a Democratic state legislator up for re-election.
He had basically zero press until his investigation began.
2. AG Brown is the presumptive (i.e., only) Democratic Party candidate
Governor of California. He (for whatever reason) declined to
prosecute a member of his own staff for illegally recording
meetings with the press.
3. The person whose remuneration is the current 'idee fixe' of a state
legislator, just happens to be a well-known Republican politico (and
losing VP nominee in the last election).

On wonders if there would be this much political fuss if the fundraising dinner featured Joe Lieberman or John Edwards (the last two losing Democratic VP nominees) as the speaker?

Napa Valley, Land of Cult Wines, Faces Record Defaults {Housingwatch}

Mar 10th 2010 11:41PM Now if the post had said WHICH wineries were up for sale, it might have been useful. I mean if operations like Krug, R. Mondavi, Beringer, Domaine Chandon are the ones in trouble, that's one thing. If it's just abunch of overpriced "boutique wineries", so what?

The new Coke mini: Pay more, get less {WalletPop}

Jan 31st 2010 10:55AM And somehow the EXISTING $3.00 six-pack of 6 ounce cans escaped the CPSI's notice?

'American Idol' and the Death of the American Dream {BV Black Spin}

Jan 21st 2010 9:28PM I don't watch "Idol" very often, but the early rounds I've seen show up a number of things that are "off" with many contestants. Like not being able to sing a capella. Or not figuring out it's a talent competition. Or not doing the math: thousands show up, a dozen are chosen. I totally agree with one of Simon's remarks from a while back, "Did no one tell you this was a singing competition?"

Ad Rant: Dockers ads claim "soft" khakis will make men more manly {WalletPop}

Dec 9th 2009 9:40AM Real men don't drink non fat lattes. Real men drink black coffee. Other real men drink black tea. Sugar allowed.
