Obama's Happy Homecoming {BV on Love}
Sep 23rd 2009 8:46AM What a difference a year has made! I am unable even to conceive of a photo sequence like this one with W and his girls!
Obama's Real-Person Health Care Story Not That Real {Politics Daily}
Sep 18th 2009 2:52PM Let's be a bit more careful about using the words "lie" and "liar." A person lies only if he knows he is not telling the truth. Yes, his speechwriters failed to vet the story, but they and Obama thought the story was true. Thus there was no lie. And note that it was partly true. Coverage was denied because of an unknown preexisting condition and it took the family, and attorney and a State Attorney General to get coverage restored. Obama wants to prevent coverage denial in the future.
Looking For a Crystal Ball? {AOL Hot Searches}
Jan 23rd 2009 8:30PM For a nation that admires and respects science and scientists, an astonishing number of our citizens believe in such nonsense as the paranormal. Its practicioners have a number of ways to obtain information from you that you do not realize you have provided. It is called "cold reading." Come on, America - get real.
Indian pilot forgets to load enough fuel for his flight {Gadling}
Jan 8th 2009 3:03PM It happens all the time. I once helped a Cesna pilot who arrived in Haiti without funds and no gas. I provided repatriation funds, but he did not use it all. left assuring me he had enough gas, but ran out near Cuban territorial waters. The Cubans rescued him from the sharks. It would probably have been better for the gene pool to have left him to his fate! Also, when there was a crisis and no commercial flights would enter Haiti, a money hungry pilot chartered a DC-3, loaded up with those desperate to leave and the mail. Ran out of fuel over the Bahamas, did a beautiful crash landing in shallow water, everybody happy sitting on the partly submerged wings or nearby island. They and mail promptly rescued, and everybody happy except recipients of water logged mail. There are crazy, or incompetent pilots everywhere.
Toddler makes late-night run for chocolate... alone {ParentDish}
Aug 8th 2008 10:52PM Some years ago we lived next door to a family with a lively, nay overly lively, young boy. He frequently came to our house just to be here, sometimes making me think he was Denis the Menace and I was Mr. Mitchel, especially on the day that he used my leather briefcase as a trampoline. One day, when he was four or five, he came later than usual and stayed and stayed as we watched television. At about 9:00 I telephoned his Dad and asked if it were not time for the boy to go home. He assured me that the boy had been in bed for a long time and he had been sitting there in the living room adjacent to the bedroom door. I finally persuaded him to take a peek in the bedroom - he finally agreed that his son was indeed at our house. His Dad thinks he must have dozed off, the boy seizing the moment to walk right by him and out a more or less emergency exit on a deck and over to see us. The Dad still does not know how he managed this little trick.
Dad called pervert for taking pictures of his own kids in public {ParentDish}
Jul 20th 2008 2:21AM As another poster noted, everything on the street or beach is in the public domain and it is not against the law to photograph. It is just plain common courtesy, however, to ask persmission before taking a picture of other people or their children.

Jan 22nd 2008 8:56PM A lovely site. I have just sent it to my Grandchildren so they can determine where their digging diligence might bring them! That is assuming they had an asbestos suit and a swiming suit!
During travel to China I learned one very fascinating thing. Chinese mother's ask their small children if they are digging a hole to America!

Apr 20th 2007 1:43AM Darlene - Your point would be stronger if you didn't shout at poor Crystal, and if you yourself did not make a punctuation error.

Apr 19th 2007 10:57PM I used "swamp coolers" decades ago in Baghdad. Great there, most of the time, but if the humidity got higher than 12 or 15%, they were not worth the electricity they used. Also, don't even think of what it takes to clean one up after a dust storm turns everything to mud!!!
