Oct 19th 2009 3:09PM Egypt! Specifically Aswan! In one direction lies the Nile river, and in the other direction lies Lake Nasser - both filled with incredibley beautiful and ancient temples. This photo is one of my favorites, because it shows the antquity of Egypt, mixed in with the modern.

Jul 19th 2009 4:07PM I have always wanted to do the Maine coast in the fall, with all the trees a blazin' with their many colors! We don't get that where I live, so it would be quite a treat! Staring in Brunswick, which is home to many music festivals, and Bowdoin College, which houses art by Winslow Homer & Andrew Wyeth, we would drive to Bailey Island and take one of the many sport fishing tours that are offered there. Continuing on our drive, we would stop at Bath, visiting the Maine Maritime Museum and Washington Street, where wealthy merchants and captains built their mansions. After that we would take a little detour down to Popham Beach State Park, where the famous Kennebec River empties into the sea. There are lots of sandbars, salt marshes, etc, and you can also visit the never completed Fort Popham.

Going back up to the Main(e?) highway, we take another detour and visit Reid State Park, known for its rocks, birds, and berries. Back up to the main highway we pass through picturesque little towns and villages such as Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, and stop to see Damariscotta Falls, and the ospreys who hunt nearby.

Along the way, we will stop at lighthouses, because I simply love them, and one of the most famous will be at our next stop - Pemaquid Point, which also has an art gallery, and nearby Christmas Cove, which we would also have to see!

Continuing our lovely road trip, we drive through more scenic towns such as Waldoboro, Port Clyde (where Andrew Wyeth spent many boyhood summers) and Rockport, known for its interesting shops and cultural entertainment.

After that, we drive through Camden Hills State Park, to hike, take photos of squirrels and woodpeckers, and view the village of Camden down below.

Farther up the coast, we drive through Belfast, Searsport, Bucksport, and other quaint little towns, and then make a turn that takes us back down the "Downeast Coast". On the way down this coast we stop and have a nice picnic and take a lovely nature walk through the Holbrook Island Sanctuary.

As we continue along our journey, we take a detour at Stonington on Little Deer Isle to see the various structures that are made out of its distinctive pink granite.

Finally we venture up to Ellsworth, and then drive down to our final destination, Mt. Desert Island, home of the beautiful Acadia National Park. Another dream destination, this is one of the loveliest parks in the whole National Park System, and well worth seeing, especially in the fall.

And that's our dream trip!

Oct 7th 2008 1:02PM Happy Birthday Gadling!

I'd use my tickets to visit Keukenhof Garden, in the spring in Lisse, which is one of the biggest gardens in the world, and then take a canal cruise, which I've always wanted to do. I'd also love to see their national team play Scotland in a world cup qualifier!

Aug 25th 2008 2:55PM When I was in high school I went with a bunch of friends to backpack in Yosemite's back country. While we were there, my best friend and I got the notion that we should climb Half Dome (via the steps and cables, not mountain climbing). Well, from where we were it was quite a hike down into the valley, and then another hike up to Half Dome itself. No one else wanted to go, but taking a canteen, a flashlight, and some granola bars we decided to do it (yes, talk about young and stupid!). We made it to Half Dome without any problems, and then had to follow some guys up who thought it would be funny to pull the poles out that had the cables going through them. I must say it offers a spectacular view once you're up there. Going down was horrible! I'm afraid of heights and I STILL get vertigo today just thinking about the one or two times I looked down. Somehow we made it down and back to up to camp, exhausted, lucky to have found our camp in the dark, but having gone on a great adventure that I'll never forget - or do again!

Jul 8th 2008 3:38PM I use Google maps more than map quest, because I usually don't have problems such as the directions that told me to turn up a one way street with Google maps!

Also locals, cab drivers, hotel and police. Usually the ones who don't want to lose your business in some form or another are the most helpful!

Thankfully the internet has come along and changed the way we find our ways around cities these days...
