Tenants' Rights in Eviction: When Do Landlords Go Too Far? {AOL Real Estate}
Feb 5th 2013 11:51AM I would think that since this is a "Senior Living" apartment complex, that would seem to imply that the landlord should make reasonable accommodation and accept foreseeable risks inherent in an elderly clientele.
'This Is Crazy': Company Snatches Condos From Owners {AOL Real Estate}
Jun 28th 2012 11:57AM One more reason why I would NEVER own a condo!! Even when I was a kid, I always said it seemed a scam. I mean, you take a piece of property which would ordinarily hold 6 one or two family homes, build a 30-unit condominium complex on it, sell each unit for almost as much as a house would go for, charge maintenance fees (which are almost as much as rent in some places), etc. Just seems like a license to steal. Add to that the rules of condominiums associations (i.e., no motorcycles, etc.) why the HELL would anyone pay that kinda $$ to have LESS freedom than most renters? Plus, at the end of a day, whether home owner or renter, you KNOW what you've got. These condo owners never stood a chance!
House of the Day: $14.9 Million Buys You a Home Built for Jesus {AOL Real Estate}
May 15th 2012 12:41PM Jesus was a carpenter. He would appreciate a wooden home built in the Quaker style.
Family Wrongly Booted From Home Returns To Wreckage {AOL Real Estate}
Dec 1st 2011 2:58PM To many people in America, the system only seems to work for the rich. Any of us whose ever gotten a speeding ticket we didn't deserve knows that without an attorney, we don't stand a chance. These are hard-working poor people who were probably just getting by. Unable to afford an attorney, they figured it was better to give up than to fight--especially with children caught in the middle.
Gripe Water: Time-Honored Remedy for Colic or Myth? {ParentDish}
Jun 20th 2011 2:39PM The first thing that must be kept in mind is that the pharmaceutical industry has little interest in exploring the validity of folk medicines because there would be very limited opportunity to profit in something that woudl be difficult to patent and could ultimately be made more cheaply at home.
The next thing that should be kept in mind is that people have been reasoning by analogy--effectively--for centuries before the science existed to support the conclusions already drawn. For instance, back in the days of sailing ships, British naval vessels made a point of keeping citrus fruits aboard because they were known to keep away scurvy--HUNDREDS of years before anyone discovered vitamins! This allowed voyages of longer duration and earned the British the nickname "Limeys". Point is, one need not have a complete understanding of the whys, hows and wherefores to make reasonable observations of the cause and effect relationship.
Mom With Stage 4 Breast Cancer Denied Custody of Kids in Bitter Battle {ParentDish}
May 11th 2011 11:37AM What is really mind-blowing about this case is that had she been fired on account of her cancer, she would end-up owning a large part of the company she worked for. In such a case, it would be about a fundamental right to one's employment. What then, could be more fundamental than the right than custody of one's children?
Phoebe Prince's Bullies Apologize, Are Sentenced to 1 Year Probation, Community Service {ParentDish}
May 5th 2011 2:29PM A vast improvement over when I was a kid. Back then, bullies could beat you up with impugnity because nobody would ever come forward as a witness for you. Other kids were so afraid of being the next victim, they gladly laughed along with everyone else. And, if a kid ever committed suicide, the authorities would say that it was "proof" of the child's instability and that the violence was all in his head! Case closed. Now, at least we have a system that is willing to admit when something is wrong. It took five years of martial arts training before I could escape the hell that was my childhood. Now, I am trained in Tae Kwon Do, Ju Jitsu and Goshin Ryu. Additionally, I am trained in PRT and CDT (Take-down and restraint techniques) Anyone from my childhood want a rematch? Let me know. :-)
If Air Traffic Control's Asleep, What Now? {AOL Travel News}
Mar 24th 2011 2:16PM It is surprising that while each aircraft is requires a fully-qualified pilot and copilot, the tower--which is responsible for several aircraft within it's airspace (as well as runways and taxiways)was thought to need only one controller!
Man Boarded Delta Flight Without Boarding Pass {AOL Travel News}
Mar 11th 2011 11:56AM Actually, the word "officer" is defined as, "any person charged with an official duty". Certainly, an employee of a Government agency with a clearly defined charter that both defines such duties and answers directly to a Department (Homeland Security)of the Federal Government qualifies as that!
