Apr 24th 2010 1:18PM Lois I feel your pain. This is also how we make a living and it's extremely hard these days. All the property values have gone down, but the property taxes keep going up. Eviction fees have gone up. Insurance is sky high since Ivan, Charley, Jean, etc. The tenants are getting worse and worse. They all have that "I don't give a damn" attitude about everything and lying is a way of life for most. I wish everyone had to do this just for 1 day - I guarantee they'd never want do it again. And this is for Marilyn, In these times, you have to sometimes take what you can get so you can pay your mortgage. We rent to all income levels and unfortunately it sometimes doesn't matter when it comes to someone paying on time or taking care of the property like it was theirs. When my husband and I were young and had to rent we always left the place like we found it. That's a thing of the past for the most part, as is personal responsibility, just too easy to blame others for everything bad in their life.

Apr 24th 2010 1:04PM I dare you to be a landlord and walk in our shoes for just 1 day. The education you get about people these days is priceless. Our tenants know the law every bit as well as we do and know how to drag things out as long as possible. We try to work with every tenant who is in a bad spot, but you can't work with them all or you can't pay your mortgage. Right now there are a lot of landlords "working" with a lot of tenants. Don't judge until you walk a mile in those shoes. It's not an easy way to make a living. We even take our leftovers to our tenants when we have them. I know not all landlords will behave this way, but there are many who do care about others but we all must balance that with also paying the bills.
