Band on the Run: Dames of Dalkeith {Gadling}
Aug 7th 2007 11:56PM I loved that you did that and experienced something very memorable in your own home space. Definitely it should be an annual event, if not a monthly occurance. It was obvious that Jenny was impressed with your presence. A change is a good thing! Let the dames rule!

Band on the Run: Fleece Me with an Ambler's Flocks {Gadling}
Aug 4th 2007 11:06AM I really enjoyed this post. Wakefield seems like a lovely spot to visit. Your dad and I will have to make a stop there one day on our drive to see you. I also look forward to obtaining a copy of Garnet Rogers in concert at the Black Sheep Inn, featuring two wonderful back-up vocalists. We recently heard good things about the Gatineau Hills region and are planning to see it during our future excursions east. Keep the blogs coming. It certainly makes everyone feel like they are part of the flock. Pun intended.

Band on the Run: Gathering Food for Thought {Gadling}
Aug 2nd 2007 12:47AM It is so great to see you busily gathering the fruits of the earth. It is really more wonderful to realize that you are able to take such valuable time out of your touring schedule, to enjoy the harvest, while also socializing with your neighbours. That is a good thing!
Thank goodness that you moved beyond your dislike of picking weeds out of the sidewalk, to picking juicy berries in the field. Life truly can be rich and full when filled with many interesting changes. I repeat. That is a good thing!
If you have additional time to stop by the old homestead, there are some healthy weeds just longing for your attention. On well. Wishful thinking on my part!

Band on the Run: A Roadie Without The Heavy Lifting {Gadling}
Jul 25th 2007 10:10PM Dearest Ember:
I can't believe that you have started writing again so soon. Do you ever rest? TAKE TIME TO PAUSE AND REFRESH! some motherly advice....
I just today began organizing your blogs from China into four red binders as a keep-sake. That's correct. They filled four binders. My ink cartridges are huffing and puffing, while they await refueling. You are an expensive kid, but worth it. No problem! I can't let this writing slip away. It has to become part of our archives. I am ready to enjoy your travels once again, as I climb aboard with my computer and printer poisted to save and copy. Do you recall how your father and I were Roadies once, when we celebrated our 35th with you in Alberta? Keep up the great entries. I'm certain that there are lots of readers that will be thrilled by your every word.

A Canadian in Beijing: Reverse Culture Shock {Gadling}
Jul 21st 2007 12:39AM To Dick Swift
Ember is our youngest daughter. We are extremely proud of her. Not only is she beautiful on the outside, but also beautiful inside. She has proven to be a very talented woman in the music business, but now, from these inspiring blogs, she will also be recognized as a gifted writer/journalist. Hopefully her future will continue to be bright, no matter where her light shines.
We have been blessed with two very special and successful daughters, which has made the job of parenting very rewarding. Thanks for your comment.
A Canadian in Beijing: Big Toothy Grin at the Dental Hospital {Gadling}
Jun 26th 2007 12:25AM Your grandfather is probably looking down from above and smiling at this experience. When I accompanied him to the University of Toronto Dental Faculty, at the age of 18, while he was a still a member of the faculty, he toured me around a very similar facility. It was very interesting, and although I didn't pursue a career in dentistry, it was an experience that I will always remember. Some of the dental students were pretty handsome too. Mostly, I recall how proud I felt of him and his skills as a dentist. I find it amazing that you actually had a similar experience, but on the other side of the globe. Wow! That gives me goose bumps. Ember, you never cease to surprise me. You are so special!

A Canadian in Beijing: The Great Baozi, A Tribute {Gadling}
Jun 26th 2007 12:03AM Here I am at 11:45 at night, getting hungry for su baozi. You made it sound so delicious! Since, I have been dieting lately, this doesn't look like it would presently fit into my plan. Plus, I never eat this late. Actually, I have lost 14 pounds just being sensible and eating healthy food combinations. Amazingly enough, eating Temple's Xocai chocolates, has also helped me to loose weight and control my cravings. Hard to imagine that anything as good as chocolate could do that, but it does. Have you had a chance to go onto her website "www.lifewithchocolate.net?" Maybe, you should have your own site called "lifewithsubaozi." You certainly have been an excellent sales person for anyone about to visit Beijing looking for something tasty to eat. Loved the photo of you with the two ladies. You look very contented. Maybe you could find out all about the recipe so that you can practise on us once you return. See you soon!

A Canadian in Beijing: Smooth Summer Night {Gadling}
Jun 25th 2007 11:35PM We are having a bit of a heat wave too, here in Southwestern Ontario. Some of the lawns look like they are in the condition that they would be in late July, when rain has been noticably absent. Our gardens have needed constant watering and it isn't even July yet. Fortunately, you will be used to it when you arrive home later this week. We miss you and are looking forward to your return. Meanwhile, try to keep cool and drink in all you can of the time remaining, to consolidate your friendships and memories of a place I believe will become your second home. Don't say, "Good-bye", but rather "See you soon or until we meet again!"

A Canadian in Beijing: The National Bird of China {Gadling}
Jun 25th 2007 11:20PM Once again, a very interesting blog. You have not missed much in your daily activities. What you do see is always so much deeper and more meaningful than how the average passerby sees. Your observations have a heart and a soul. You are definitely going to miss the pulse of Beijing, but more importantly, we are going to miss reading about your experiences. It would be wonderful to have all of your blogs published into a book, so that one could sit down comfortably and review all of your visit more conveniently. A complete collection of your writing would be most timely for the up-coming Olympics, as well. People planning to visit Beijing would be delighted with this picturesque sneak preview of such an awesome place, especially when enjoyed and interrupted with such sensitivity by Ember Swift. China should be very grateful that you chose to spend your last three months there and were then able to so capably convey your impressions and your love for their country to the outside world. What a great accomplishment! We are very proud of your effort and skill as a writer. Looks good on you!
Congratulations Gadling for employing our Ember.

A Canadian in Beijing: Old and New Embrace {Gadling}
Jun 5th 2007 8:57AM Your writing is so beautifully lyrical. Not only do you sing songs with a rhythm that stirs our heart, you write words with images that awaken our soul. No wonder you love China. I suspect that they are loving you too!
