Nov 30th 2007 8:12AM As a parent of 3 "normal" children and 1 autistic son....let me tell you that one of the best things you as a friend to a parent of an autistic child is offer your time babysitting...not all the time...but a night every now and then is a nice gesture.
BUT before you do this....you may want to simply spend more time with this friend and her children. We mothers who have autistic children are thankful for a night out....but it's still not relaxing if we are worried all night on how our child may behave during the time we are gone. Especially if we don't know how you would handle a melt down...or how alert you are to some of these childrens complete lack of safety awareness....Just a thought!!
