Iconfactory working on open-source iOS frameworks for Mac OS X {TUAW.com}

Mar 23rd 2011 9:17AM What an education. Reading through the source/comments, you can see it's just as much of one for The Iconfactory, except we get to learn alongside them as things unfold (and perhaps even contribute?). I'm not a big fan of cross-platform toolkits, but the spirit in which this one has been conceived (esp. with Core Animation as the chewy center) is reassuring. Thanks to Craig and Sean for sharing this!

Poll: Have you received your DTV tuning adapter? {Engadget HD}

Feb 1st 2009 10:11AM I second, third and fourth the other comments. The title of this article is confusing, especially in light of the DTV cutover. Engadget HD, please do-over the poll! I would be interested in the new responses.

Cablevision's probable VOOM HD replacement channels: they're all premiums {Engadget HD}

Jan 21st 2009 12:47PM I'm voting with my wallet.

FiOS is available on my block in February. I spoke with a rep and learned we can replace both our cable modems (one business VoIP, one home VoIP - yes, they needed to be separate) with a single FiOS line.

Right away, that saves us the extra internet service we currently need for the biz VoIP. As for web-based access to messages, there's FiOS Digital Voice (vs. the POTS option) for the residential line:

http://www.verizon.com/fiosvoice/

My only gripe is that they don't have it for business lines. (Cablevision offers web-based access to voicemail regardless.)

On the other hand, we aim to save upwards of $1,000/yr with this new plan - no Tuning Adapter needed. Plus, if Verizon will let me lock in the rate in exchange for a multi-year commitment, so much the better.

Poll: Do you still use component? {Engadget HD}

Aug 21st 2008 8:15AM When it comes to component I presently have no choice in the matter. The Mitsubishi WS-55411 only accepts component input - no HDMI or DVI-D.

As for the tricky trick of feeding it HD without downconversion, there's http://www.hdfury.com/ and http://www.x-vue.com/Box1020.html

So between that and all the HDMI horror stories I keep hearing from friends, I can't say I'm in a rush to switch just yet.
