Friends-with-Benefits Conundrum {Lemondrop}

Mar 10th 2009 3:07PM I don't think a friend with benefits hinders one from finding "Mr/Mrs. Right," if you will. In fact, I had a friend with benefits a few years back and both of us ended up finding long-term relationships; he found one first and, when that ended a year later, called me only to find that I was in a long-term relationship. Considering that a friend with benefits is just that--a friend one has casual sex with--the search for a boyfriend or girlfriend doesn't have to stop and in my case didn't. The benefits of having a friend with benefits is that one can have casual sex and, in the case that a long-term relationship arises, the friend with benefits will understand (no strings attached). After my three-year long relationship ended, I became the friend with benefits to one of my friends; we have great sex, are really good friends, hang out all the time, and have hinted at having an actual relationship (yet neither of us is ready for a long-term relationship so the friends with benefits relationship works really well). All in all, what I'm saying is that a friend with benefits does not have to detract one from engaging in the search for a long-term relationship and, in the mean time, can fulfill one with sex as well as a certain level of companionship. On the flip side, a friend with benefits relationship can be tricky and is certainly not without its faults.

South African flight crews know how to get high {Gadling}

Feb 19th 2009 9:29PM Stephanie, notice how I said "college educated." I'm not in college either sweetheart. For someone who claims to have gone to college, you sure don't pay attention to detail! And I’m sorry, for you to be of color and to be ignorant of the ideology our country was founded on is just plain sad. I am not racist--try rereading all of my posts and remember what your professors' taught you in college, read and think critically! The simple fact of the matter is that our country was indeed built on racism and by white men at that. Simple acknowledgement of this fact will make it a lot easier for this country to overcome racism. It exists so pervasively for a reason. Stop claiming ignorance already. As for your very shallow comment that we're not in 1935 anymore, racism still exists today just as it did back then. As a matter of fact, just today I was ignored by a white woman while visiting a friend at a nursing home. I asked her if she needed help and she glared at me. She then openly told me that she didn't want to talk to me because I was “colored.” A few years back my father, a college educated man, was fired from his job at AT&T; they told him there was a budget cut so they had to let him go. Not two weeks later my aunt's white husband, who didn't even finish college, was hired for my dad's position. Oh, and how about Jena 6? Or more recently, the negro head cookie (or something similar) a New York baker made on account of Obama's presidency? As I said, whether it be 1935 or 2009, racism still exists and again, one need only walk a city street to experience it (and that goes for BOTH whites and non-whites). Perhaps you should open that college textbook again because apparently you didn't learn enough. Let me be clear, it is just plain stupid to think that just because it is no longer 1935 the white male dominant ideology our country was founded on has magically disappeared; why do you think we still have racism today? Because it exists—that’s why you, as a woman, may not get paid as much as a man (and that is a fact—look it up!). No wonder racism will never go away--people, like your apathetic self, believe it already has. How sad. Just think, if Obama had been as apathetic and ignorant as you, we may not have had him as our president at all.

Feb 19th 2009 5:29PM WOW Bob, did you read my post? Nick brought up the topic of race and I simply replied to what he had to say. In case you're too blind sighted by your own ignorance to see that, here is what he said:

nick said...
What can we expect, this was one of the best places to go on a trip before the whites were taken out of power, now the liberals run it and their is nothing but slime, good place to dump our liberals.

Did you get the "ooohh" moment yet? Well perhaps this will do it: Calling all people of color liberal and suggesting that, simply because whites don't run things, South Africa is slime sounds a bit racist to me. And it's true, RACIST white men founded this country--think about slavery. Or here's a modern example, why is it that we are just now electing a black man as president? It's obvious, our country does indeed operate under a white male dominant ideology that we are ALL part of regardless of race. If anyone here is white, don't be offended that our country was founded by white men--some of them racist and thereby feeding into the racism we now see (some of us first hand). The only way to dispel racism is by accepting where it comes from and by dissecting the dominant ideology that we operate under today--the very ideology that allows for white privilege (THAT'S NOT EQUALITY). Claiming reverse racism is simply an internalized racism that you need to realize. Do some research on how our country was founded!

And one more thing, we all know the racist men that fed into the racist country we now live in: Thomas Jefferson was one of them (he was a MAJOR actor in the slave trade AFTER it was declared illegal). Another is a man named James DeWolfe, perhaps you've heard of him? Watch the documentary "Traces of the Trade" and maybe you'll see that reality isn't the picture America paints it to be.

Feb 19th 2009 5:15PM T. Vance and others, what was America founded on? Hmm, lets see...the slave trade and capitalism. Perhaps you can look both of those terms up yourself and tell me what they suggest. Try reading some of Karl Marx, I bet you would learn a lot. You'll see that America is operating under a white, male dominant ideology. Perhaps you can take a look around you, ever heard of a thing called white privilege? Or hierarchy? Or maybe sexism? And please take some time to look away from your computer and realize that I never said people like John Adams didn't exist, what I did say was that our country was founded on a white male dominant ideology, care to argue that? Not only am I college educated, but I have studied this very topic thoroughly. One need only walk a city street to see that a white dominant ideology is prevalent in this country. Why do you think blacks and women had to fight so hard to gain equal rights such as the right to vote? When you have something intelligent to say, please do so--as you can see, I have no trouble backing the validity of my assertions.

Feb 19th 2009 2:52PM Tom, did BBC write the headline for this story or did you? Either way, both BBC and yourself should stray from ridiculous generalizations--to say that "all South African flight crews know how to get high" literally implies that ALL South African flight crews get high (and the story isn't even about the SAA crew getting high!). When you generalize like this, you only fuel ignorant and racist thoughts such as those stated by nick. And nick, lest you forget, allow me to remind you that the United States was founded by the slimiest garbage out there, racist, egotistical white men. That being said, what occurs today is ultimately a product of the dominant ideology and structures white men have put into place, meaning that they themselves are responsible for ruining "one of the best places to go on a trip,” as you say—although you seem to have left out HOW that makes any sense (and yet you think you are somehow better? That’s laughable!). And for those of you who, unable to read correctly what it is I am saying, want to call me a racist, notice how I say RACIST white men. I am not generalizing all white men as racist nor am I generalizing all white men as conservative (notice how nick’s wording suggests that all people of color, specifically Africans, are liberal). Get a clue dick...I mean nick!

Funeral Not a Good Enough Excuse for Vikings {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Nov 9th 2007 4:02PM "...he also seemed pretty defiant that he didn't care what the Vikings thought."

"Defiant" is not the word--it's "indifferent." Please use a dictionary next time; when you use negative words like these it's suggestive of a biased perspective (and you did ask what we thought). Had I been in his position, I would have done the same--family is far more important than football.

Tyra Banks' Farting Advice {AOL Video Blog}

Oct 12th 2007 2:04PM LISA, I am ashamed that a woman would say such a ridiculous thing. Being feminine is any damn thing a woman wants it to be. I refuse to live my life by the false gender roles that a male dominated society has created. If you buy into that crap, then you are limiting yourself as a woman and that is very, very sad. A male can fart and burp in front of his wife and suffer no social consequences, but a woman is called "unfeminine" if she does the same thing. That's ridiculous and I advise any woman to rethink her idea of femininity if she feels the same way.

Tyra Banks' Farting Advice {AOL Video Blog}

Oct 12th 2007 2:00PM Oh please, if you can't be comfortable with your husband, then he has the problem. Marriage is a life long committment and both husband and wife are bound to fart and burp in front of one another. If one cannot be comfortable with the other, then that poses a major problem in their marriage.

Vikings Cornerback's Saggy Pants Lead to Jail {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Apr 16th 2007 11:14AM Why should AYNONE be judged by the clothes they wear? For that matter, if this had been a white man, would these comments still be as ignorant, racially loaded, and judgmental as they are now? I attend a predominately upper class white university and I must say, some of the females dress like sluts and many of the males emulate the "rapper" look. Should they be banned from attending school? And to the idiot who mentioned rap as destroying today's youth, first off, to compare a white man's (that would be Imus) racial slurs to a black man's rap lyrics makes little sense to me. A black man rapping about his own race does not make him racist; a white man racially profiling black women does. Let me give you an example that you may (and certainly should) understand: At my school, tons of white students call each other cracker and make jokes about the white race. Is that much different than a rapper speaking, albeit negatively, about his own race? I think not. People are so quick to defend Imus using the poor of example of rapping, that they fail to realize one important fact: HE WAS STILL IN THE WRONG AND IS STILL RACIST! Ditch the comparisons and focus on the matter at hand (I suppose you're taking your queues from our oh-so-intelligent president--gosh, you're a genius!). And let's talk about ignorant; one of you ignoramuses (and this is not to say that all you areif you get offended, then I am talking to you) claims that Imus is not a racist, but was joking around. Racial slurs are not a joking matter. The claim is made that in the professional world, Griffin should have dressed "better." Well then, as a "professional, Imus should have learned to keep his racial slurring off the court. One more thing, did anyone say that Griffin pronounced four letter words as if they were three letter words? You, Franco, are coming off quite racist yourself. Where did this critique come from anyway? The fact that Griffin's incident brings about other racially loaded assertions about black people proves that many of you are prejudiced toward black people. I am DISGUSTED by the ignorance I see in America today. Before attending college, I had no idea how disgusting and racist America was. I have NEVER met a more racist, discriminatory group than upper class white people. I will forever have a bad taste in my mouth because of the ignorance that is America.

Tommie Harris Strikes Out With Oscar-Winner Jennifer Hudson {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Mar 21st 2007 12:01PM I don't think anyone should question the beauty (or lack thereof, as some of you seem to think) of these two ladies, considering that Harris himself is NOT a looker. I don't care how much money he makes or what sports team he plays on, to question his interest in Barrino and Hudson when he himself is unnattractive, is ridiculous to me. Besides, Barrino and Hudson should be viewed as classy women, those "beautiful" women that take up his offer are nothing short of groupies.
