Jan 23rd 2013 5:17PM Oh yes, Palestine, a Roman name meaning the land of the Philistines (as an insult to the Jews) was identifiable pre-1948 as a British mandate, which included present-day Jordan and present-day Israel. At that time, 'Palestinian' referred to the Jewish community living there. And in Europe, the graffiti said, 'Jews, go back to Palestine.' Having the term refer to the Arabs was an invention of the late 1960s and 1970s. The following two quotes may make that clearer:
"There is no such country as Palestine. 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented. There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria. 'Palestine' is alien to us. It is the Zionists who introduced it."
- Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, Syrian Arab leader to British Peel Commission, 1937
"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle [Jihad] against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct Palestinian people to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan."
- Zahir Muhsein, executive leader in the PLO, in an interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw, March 31, 1977
Jan 22nd 2013 11:49AM Wrong, Sean. It only has observer status. Not the status of a country or state. That can only happen if the issue is voted on via the Security Council and they accept it. America has veto power there, so that is not going to happen any time soon. Which I am sure upsets you. But since many of the other countries at the UN General Assembly are tinpot dictatorships whose leaders were not even democratically elected, it's a good thing. Gaza itself is run by a bunch of Hamas terrorist thugs who have publicly said Jews are apes and pigs and should all be put to death, down to the last person, and that the Muslims should and will take over all of Europe. They also danced on 9/11 and celebrate Bin Laden. There's your "Palestine" for you! Hope it makes you proud.
Jan 22nd 2013 11:33AM "part of Palestine"? There is no established Palestine. You are talking about "Judea and Samaria" (based on thousands of years of Jewish history), or, if you prefer, "the West Bank" (based on a mere 20 years of Jordanian Arab rule - though the Jordanians no longer lay claim to it). So, is this the new ruse used by liberal publications -- to name a territory under Israeli control "Palestine"? It has never been recognized internationally as such. I guess the Huff Post wants it to be that way, so makes up names and allots lands to whomever it wants in its articles. It's not journalism though. It's just leftist/Islamist propaganda.
Jan 24th 2010 12:52AM Apparently the writer of the article has a problem now that the shoe is on the other foot - just like when a conservative blogger uncovered Dan Rather's outrageous lies. I wonder if Ms. Navarro ever wrote an article about the *liberal* bias in the lamestream media. Somehow I doubt it.
Sep 30th 2009 2:33AM Joyless Behar takes your fine day and rains on it. A LOUDMOUTH rather than an articulator. A complainer rather than an optimist. Predictable & completely clueless rather than original & thoughtful. A knee-jerk liberal rather than someone with a mind of their own. A bore. A loser. Bye bye, Joyless!
Aug 3rd 2009 3:13PM Boy, how long can AOL milk a non-issue story. It's been on here for days. Sarah resigned and the media said it's all over for her. But apparently you and your ilk are SOOOO afraid that it's not over for her at all, that you release your typical left wing disinformation. Sarah was right when she said the media should 'quit making things up.' But of course, Corny, you don't have the moral or journalistic integrity to do that.
Aug 1st 2009 10:55PM Corn, you are a perfect example of the media that makes stuff up. Check the facts. You're meant to be a journalist, right? What a load of disinformation. Any communist or socialist would be proud. So I guess you feel proud, too. You are known by your friends to be a secret communist, right? I think I may have read that somewhere...
Jul 17th 2009 3:23AM Actually, at the time in 1970, Jane Fonda was arrested for kicking a police officer who was arresting her for a large amount of pills she had in her possession. Charges were dropped when it was determined that the pills were vitamins.
Jul 17th 2009 3:17AM Not only is she a traitor to the US and a lover of the murdering Communist enemy, she's also a wooden actress and, apparently, an extreme narcissist. What an all round loser.
Jul 3rd 2009 7:50AM Biden's Delaware is around the same population as Alaska and does not seem to produce a whole lot aside from a stumbling smiling dummy like him. Alaska is one of our country's main domestic sources of energy. And Palin wants to tap into that much more. She understands it's an economic and security issue, unlike Obama, who loves the Arabs.
