Jan 18th 2011 8:20AM Rewarding a tantrum with attention only reinforces the cause-effect intheir little heads. REMOVE them from the situation. Isolate them. And never cave to their demands. This is not rocket science.
The second a child realizes that A=B in terms of their behavior, a pattern is set. If A is "I scream when I don't get my way." and B is "I get what I want." than expect it to grow in proportion each tie you attempt the word "NO".
I have three daughters raised with cause and effect, no rewards for bad behavior, and the simple removal of them from the situation when they attempted a tantrum. AND we never spanked.
They are wonderful young women - respectful, thoughtful, compassionate, and NOT spoiled.
