Majority Says Afghanistan Is Turning into a Vietnam {Politics Daily}

Oct 19th 2009 5:05PM The majority also voted for Obama which just goes to show you that the majority doesn't know its butt from third base. LBJ threw VietNam away, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and caused the deaths and incarcerations of millions. If you think we were losing VN when we pulled out, just read Gen Giap's memoires. We had the VC and NVA on the ropes after TET '68 and the following Spring Offensive and let them go. Afghanistan is a completely different war but we still have a lot to learn there. There probably will never be one solution for the entire country. It may even be that it makes no sense for it to remain as one country, but that is not our say. We are really there to eliminate the Taliban that support al Qaeda (about 75% of them) so as to terminate their aid to al Qaeda. I keep hearing on these blogs how al Qaeda and the Taliban are not connected: more proof that the majority is out of it. Ignorence is both its own reward and punishment.

14-Year-Old African Turns Garbage Into Wind Power {Asylum}

Oct 12th 2009 9:00PM Great story of hope and inspiration. Perhap's think young lad's example will spur others to accomplish great things in his impoverished country. However, I believe the title would be clearer if it indicated that Kamkwamba made the windmill from "trash" rather than "garbage", as the most common use of "garbage" is for food waste, which was not used to make the windmill.

Toys 'R' Us Chided for Reinforcing 'Outdated Gender Roles' {Lemondrop}

Oct 7th 2009 2:35PM Give me a break. Those kids are already broken if they are so sensitive to such stereotypes in advertising. It's a catalogue! It's not a Women's Lib class or a school text book. God help them if they look to a "Toys R Us" catalogue for guidance in gender roles. If that catalogue is more influential than the example of their parents or other adults in their lives, the world will be a difficult place for them. I am much more concerned about the blurring of gender on TV and the attempt, by Hollywood, to "normalize" aberant behavior. It's pervasive in all areas of programming, including children's shows.

Obama Wedding Slideshow Brings the Change We Need {Lemondrop}

Oct 7th 2009 9:17AM BHO is definitely NOT my favorite guy (God bless America) BUT when I saw the first slide, I thought the slide show was going to be a hoot. THEN I got to slide 2 and it was another BHO interloper, then another, ad nauseam, and I wanted to slap the guy who did it. No longer clever nor funny, simply an easy way to get people's attention. A clever guy would have planted pix of people who were important in the couple's lives, perhaps (favorite athletes, movie star crushes, favorite authors, maybe even God/Jesus/Moses/Mohammad/whomever) to bless the event) BUT BHO in EVERY slide? Hardly the BEST slide show ever: Ho-hum.

4-Year-Old Channels Kurt Russell's 'Miracle' Speech {ParentDish}

Oct 6th 2009 10:03AM I just watched the originaclip w/ Kurt Russel. What's even more amazing than the kid is that Russel was able to deliver his lines w/ a straight face while wearing plaid pants

4-Year-Old Channels Kurt Russell's 'Miracle' Speech {ParentDish}

Oct 6th 2009 9:55AM My daughter is 3 and knows lines from Bambi plus ALL the songs from Barney, Lazy Town, etc in English and Spanish. I agree with the posts that say all kids do it, it's just usually kids programs, not hockey movies. Now, if he understood the motivational aspect of the speach, that would be even better.

Dan Rather loses $70 million case against CBS {Daily Finance}

Sep 30th 2009 10:24AM Rather is an arrogant, pompous ass who finally got what he had coming for years (since Viet Nam). He made a career passing off editorializing as news and couldn’t make the minutest of efforts at disguising his rabid anti-Republican, anti-Conservative views. When he saw something that appeared to damage Bush, he leapt upon it like a hobo on a ham sandwich, never making any attempt to verify the information. At the time the story broke, it did not paint a very pleasant picture of Rather’s personality and treatment of others at the network so, perhaps, CBS saw it as an opportunity to remove the thorn from its butt. Good-by and good riddance! There isn’t a single major news outlet anymore that actually reports the “news” in anything resembling a balanced way. CNN has actually gotten better since the political conventions (which were a disgustingly biased joke) but they still have a long way to go to become a “news” network. The so-called news outlets are no more than entertainment channels anymore. Oh, and could someone send me a translation of "rilee's" post???????????????????

Shocking Photos: Spain's First Daughters Appear to be . . . Teenagers {Politics Daily}

Sep 30th 2009 12:39AM I hate to set a precedent here but I'm actually going to comment on the blog. REALLY! I'm not selling anything. Obama was not responsible for keeping those girls out of the pic, their parent's were, but now I know why the Spanish media doesn't want anyone taking their pix; they dress like characters from a Freddy Kruger movie. What is up with those black sacks they're wearing? Are they Muslim? And is there a reason why their pic appears under a headline about an AIDS vaccine? What a ridiculous juxtaposition. Oh, yeah, and enough of this assinine political crap and personal attacks against people expressing their "on point" opinions.

Brown jumps into junk mail delivery: Clueless UPS {WalletPop}

Sep 29th 2009 9:07AM If someone leaves a box of trash on my porch, they're going to hear from my attorney. I'll call them first and tell them to come back and retrieve it BUT I have an extremely low tolerance for that sort of crap. I do the same thing with newspapers that leave "free" papers on my porch. If I wanted their paper on my porch, I would subscribe to it... UPS and others deliver items to people who order them from a 3rd party. If I don't order it, I don't want it and I won't tolerate it. PERIOD! I'm neither a hermit nor a green wacko but I don't want anybody dumping unsolicited stuff on my property. I don't see any difference between this and some school kid walking by and throwing their trash or soda cans into my bushes. If I know who did it, I make them retrieve it.

Drew Barrymore Heats Up InStyle and Talks Struggling With Celebrity, Fashion Faux Pas and Being 'Jell-O on a Pole' {Stylelist}

Sep 29th 2009 8:47AM Wellllllllllllllll, jello on a pole? THAT could definintely get a guy interrested in jello. Drew is waaaay hot. She's not only great looking (and a great actress) but she has a self-depricating way about her that shows she doesn't take that acting thing too seriously and, for me, it just adds to her sexiness. There's so much hype, who knows what famous people are really like, but she seems warm and genuine, so I'm sticking with that fantasy.
