Mandatory Car Rental Insurance: Watch Out For Bait-And-Switch Pricing {Gadling}

Feb 15th 2013 3:30PM The same thing happens in the States also. Was in Orlando in January and rented a car from Advantage. Quoted price via email was $235, final cost ended up being $480. Some of it was expected as they charged us $10/day to add a second driver but they also charged a deposit to my credit card without informing me. Being from Canada I ended up loosing out on exchange rate when they returned money to me because although the official exchange rate is par the bank dinged me for the buy rate.

I will never use Advantage again...

Jan 29th 2013 5:29PM Too bad it is only for Europe and Northern Africa

Video Of The Day: Little Corn Island, Nicaragua {Gadling}

Jan 17th 2013 11:27AM I have also had a long time fascination with Little Corn Island but very little of this footage was filmed on Little Corn Island, if any. Little Corn Island does not have a paved road. You have to go through Big Corn Island to go to Little Corn Island as there is no airfield in Little Corn and they didn't show the transport from Big Corn to Little Corn by boat.

Visiting a German bunker from World War Two {Gadling}

Oct 28th 2011 2:32PM I love reading about the little subversive things locals did to the Nazis while occupied. As a member of the Canadian Forces I participated in two Canada Week celebrations in Knokke-Heist where they celebrate the liberation of the town and area by Canadian troops on 1 November 1944. Our host told us that on that morning his father was out on the street that runs parallel to the main street stoking his steam engine car when he spotted a couple of figures darting up the street. They were advanced scouts for the Canadians. When asked if he knew where the Nazis were he took them over to the main street and pointed to all the buildings that were occupied by Nazis.

That corner of Belgium and Holland has tons of bunkers that are just in farmer's fields and have never been restored but are still in great shape. They also still express a lot of gratitude for Canadians and Americans who liberated them from the Nazis.

Aberystwyth: Exploring a seaside resort in Wales {Gadling}

Jul 27th 2011 12:05PM When I visited Aberystwyth I was fascinated with the starlings and their return to roost under the pier just before sunset. Each day i would go to watch and take photos and video.

Montreal sewer geyser tears apart car {Gadling}

Jul 19th 2011 3:32PM Being a Montrealer and living not too far from where this happens it's not a sewer line, it was a storm drain. Just prior to this happening there was a short but intense downpour and this is the storm drain runoff coming up out of the ground.

The Vegas Box - what happens in Vegas can finally stay in Vegas {Gadling}

Mar 22nd 2011 10:01AM That's brilliant! I just got back from a conference and spent the night before leaving going through all my swag and such and left a bunch of stuff I would have loved to bring home but didn't want to pay excess baggage charges. As it was I filled my laptop case with so many books and literature (in addition to two computers) I could barely lift it but it was allowed on as carry on :-)
