Oct 5th 2012 4:45PM I've twice encountered the "Seat Mate Of Unusual Girth" (SMOUG). Once was a 3 hour domestic flight in the late 90's on American from Austin to San Jose (the famous "nerd bird"). Back then, totally full flights weren't that common, but there were no spare seats that day. The FAs were cool though--after we got airborne, they let me sit on the little shelf between the lavatories without a seatbelt until we started our descent. The second time, unfortunately, was Chicago to London on United and I was jammed against the bulkhead for 9 hours.
More recently, I sat next to a woman and her teenaged son, whose adult diaper had to be changed every 45 minutes. He was bigger than she was and it was impossible to be discrete.
Mar 12th 2009 3:28PM I'm going on a 3 day river kayaking trip in 3 weeks. I could definitely use the W60. Plus, I have 2 Pentax SLRs already--the W60 would look very pretty next to them in my gear bag.
Feb 24th 2006 12:26PM The 645D has a distinctive look, but go look at the Canon 1DsMkII--it's ugly in completely different ways. Professional cameras aren't for vacationers or soccer moms and they don't need to look like a regular SLR. I'd bet it comes in at a similar price point to the 1Ds or a little cheaper but higher than the Nikon D2X. Probably street price around $6000-$6500.
The new SLR is rumored to be named the *ist D2. It's consistent with their naming strategy with the DS and DL that now have DS2 and DL2. Just ignore the "*ist" and say "D2".
