High school principal forces student to get a haircut {ParentDish}
Dec 5th 2006 12:47AM Where is the principal from?
505 is the area code for all of New Mexico- and the Zia sun is on the state flag. Both are symbols of state pride- and have nothing to do with gangs.
The Zia sun is a religious symbol for many of the local Pueblos.
Little Fur Family, by Margaret Wise Brown {ParentDish}
Sep 29th 2006 5:10PM That was one of my favorite books as a child. However, it always frightened me that they wore fur clothing.
Central Asia Refresher {Gadling}
Jun 17th 2006 12:27AM Not entirely travel related... but as a high school in Ukraine, we learned the geography of the former Soviet Central Asian countries because they are all in alphabetical order. Start at the top with Kazakhstan and go clockwise- Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
Scrabble-Dabble Doo {Gadling}
Jun 15th 2006 4:31PM I have two of these, somehow. I brought one with me to Ukraine recently- and despite losing an E in an third class train bunk- used it often with my travelling companion.
Red Corner: Kiev gets Normal Hotel {Gadling}
Apr 30th 2006 11:20PM Is it going to be as disgustingly expensive as most Kiev hotels are? Personally, I think the downtown Kiev hotels are of excellent quality. Maybe not 5-stars, but they're up there. I particularly like the Lybid, but must admit the rooms are really cramped.
Snapdragon baby socks {ParentDish}
Apr 28th 2006 11:50AM How exactly does the snap work? Does there have to be a corresponding snap on the child's clothing? Is there a hole for the loop to pass through on baby pants?
Miffy Museum {Gadling}
Apr 28th 2006 10:50AM We adore Miffy in our family! (Except for that impulse buy at Schipol- the old fashioned Miffy alarm clock that ticks so loud we have to keep it on the porch.)
Parents sue school over same-sex fairy tale {ParentDish}
Apr 28th 2006 10:40AM Those parents need to wake up and realize where they live- Massachusetts, the only state with full marriage equality. Trey over at Daddy, Papa, and Me wrote a great response to this at http://www.lathefamily.org/warren3/blogs/001980.shtml.
He said that teaching about love is nowhere synonymous to teaching about sex, really. If a four year old reads Cinderella, we hardly start talking about the logistics of heterosexual intercourse. If these parents think that's what will happen after reading "king and king," it's their parenting methods that need examination, not the school districts choice of reading material.
The alien has landed: Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise welcome baby girl {ParentDish}
Apr 18th 2006 8:20PM Furthermore, aren't both reported as 7 pounds and 20 inches long? Creepy.
Albuquerque Turns 300 {Gadling}
Apr 18th 2006 6:23PM Really, if you go to 'Burque, you should stop by my hometown- the Pueblo of Isleta- which, according to our casino minutes, is only 'seven lucky minutes south on I-25.' Skip the casino and check out the many home-owned cafes for some real Indian bread. (and remember the cameras and other recording devices are forbidden on the reservation.)
