Ad Rant: Is Al Franken trying to kill off the nightly news? {WalletPop}

Oct 23rd 2009 5:19PM Anyone notice that the columnist never really expressed her conclusion as to what ought to be done? To her, the drugs are bad and unneeded (then why did the FDA approve them, eh?), but the loss of the ad revenues would further bleed the broadcast media. So...what's the wisest policy? As for the ads being "annoying": I've spent my whole life being annoyed by automobile ads, where drivers race over a "closed course"-- in a car with an automatic transmission, fer chrissake---attempting to convey excitement to a public that KNOWS they will sit in traffic during their daily commutes. Annoyance? I got yer annoyance, right there! And IIRC auto makers get a "tax break" for those ads, which are deductible as a business expense. Ditto those brokerage services urging day traders to borrow at 19.9% from their credit card to "invest" in a frothy and (now) utterly rigged stock market. So what's the difference?

Health Care Speechwriter for Edwards, Obama & Clinton Without Insurance Now {Politics Daily}

Oct 13th 2009 10:44PM Great article!! As for this notion that "health care is a right": I don't see anything in the Constitution's Bill of Rights that says you can be jailed, fined, or have your wages garnished if you DON'T exercise a right.

Yet the Senate and House bills call for those punishments for not paying into the Obamacare system.

Some "right"!!!

The new definition seems to be: "It's MY right for YOU to pay for MY health insurance."

How 9/11 Conspiracy Poison Did in Van Jones {Politics Daily}

Sep 8th 2009 5:12PM In fact, Glenn Beck first began discussing Van Jones' past statements on July 23rd, on-air - http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/28315/. He didn't make his "Obama is a racist" statement on Fox & Friends until July 28th so Beck didn't go after Jones in retaliation for the advertisement boycott by Color of Change. I'm sure Color of Change had just been waiting for the right opportunity to attack Beck and he provided them with it on Fox & Friends.

How 9/11 Conspiracy Poison Did in Van Jones {Politics Daily}

Sep 8th 2009 5:11PM * Anyone hear Van JOnes talk about solar-powered bulldozers??? That's all I needed to know that he didn't have a frackin clue about "green energy".

* As for Corn's claim that Beck was retaliating against Jones for urging a boycott, it's bogus:

What's the Truth About Demi's Looks? {Popeater}

Aug 31st 2009 3:40PM Someday someone will say to Demi what someone said to Joan Rivers:

"Do your ears touch yet, dearie"?

Is Karl Rove in Trouble? {Politics Daily}

Aug 8th 2009 2:10PM And so, this Enquiring Mind asks, when Holder begins quietly getting rid of the Bush DOJ holdovers, will you guys say he's NOT doing it for political purposes ---after all the "Chicago Way" politics we've seen from this administration already?

LOLZ!!!

Bill O'Reilly Trolls for Content on Urban Dictionary {Asylum}

Jul 16th 2009 9:24PM "Mind-numbing blandness of the Sotomayor hearings"?

I suppose, if you're a callow journalist too dim to follow the fascinating mix of pettifoggery (another O'Reilly word) and psychodrama.

Also, said callow journo seems to ignore the high drama of the healthcare and energy bills now being ferociously debated in congress. But they are easy to miss, as the State-Run Media is simply ignoring them!

Heh.

Secular bear market could last into 2010, maybe through 2020 {Daily Finance}

Jul 13th 2009 4:46PM jansolofsky's memory is flawed. Bush sought to allow younger workers put up to 5% of their current FICA contributions into the market via privatizes accounts. Older workers would not have been affected

Those same younger workers are likely not to get a penny of their SS contributions, since the system is headed for insolvency.

That hasn't changed a bit. Under present circumstances, a young person counting on Social Security for retirement is dreaming.

He'd be better off investing in treasuries.

Conservatives Attack Fox's Shep Smith {Politics Daily}

Jun 12th 2009 6:38PM Shep certainly didn't "play it down the middle" during Katrina. He was one of the fools who reported all the [bogus] mass rapes, baby killings etc. in the NOLA Superdome, and predicted about ten times the casualties as actually occurred.

Unlike Beck, O'Reilly, or Hannity, he is supposed to be offering a news program. So his editorializing is entirely out of place on that show. Elsewhere? Have it at!

I defy any lib to show us a network, mainstream or cable, that has as much balance as Fox News, and where so many liberals get a chance to mix it up with conservatives, whether as liberals on a "conservative" show (Williams, Liasson, of NPR; Ellist Hennican, Bob Beckell, Ed Rendell, etc. on O'Reilly), or liberals hosting their own show (Chris Wallace, Greta, Geraldo, Shep ).

Please show me such a balanced lineup on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, or (hah!) MSNBC!!!

Schwarzenegger: California will support hydrogen, always {Autoblog Green}

May 29th 2009 6:21PM Comparisions with gasoline and its purported explosiveness are ridiculous: gas isn't stored under tremendous pressures, and it takes quite a lot of energy to make it burn, let alone explode. If that were not the case we would see cars exploding around us all the time.

H2, OTOH has to be stored under very high pressures as a gas, and if you try storing it as a liquid it HAS TO BE VENTED, since there is no perfect vacuum or insulator that can prevent external ambient heat from reaching it.

Consider a parking garage filled with H2 vehicles on a hot summer day, with H2 venting all around you.

Ka-BOOM!!!

And, of course, there are NO chemical processes for making H2 that do not result in a net gain in energy savings. IF and ONLY IF H2 is made in a nuclear reactor can a case be made that H2 is a viable fuel from an energy balance standpoint.

good luck getting nukes past the green weenies.
