Kim Osorio Goes Straight to the Source {Blackvoices Main}
Sep 27th 2008 9:37PM Ms. hampton. I agree with Mr. barnes. In my humble opinion the word THUG is at issue with you and Mr, Barnes. However, having worked in Federal, State, City and Private industry (as Mr. Barnes stated) thugs exist across the board. After all is said and done it's about POWER. As a Black Man I didn't feel any better seeing a Black or Latina Women harassed by a Black or Latino man, as opposed to A Caucasian. Some of the foolish Sistas would go so far as having babies by these married Caucasians. The issued almost always comes down to a POWER play by men. I might agree with you and say that we brothers don't handle it as well (discrete). I have found myself at times schooling sistas about how to deal with the harassment, not compromising themselves, and not allow-ng themselves to be compromised.
It's a very tricking situation that comes down to the women, her values as they related to her self image and expectations. I take the side of the sistas. Knpwing our co;;ective history she deserves that respect and consideration.
Spirit Airlines: Workin with the commies {Gadling}
Aug 14th 2008 1:10PM Here here!!!!!!!!!!! The USA has lost the moral high ground, and that influence erodes more each day. Stretched thin policing the world, how does the USA response to new provocations by Russia, China's global imperial designs, India and Brasil demand for inclusion as players on the world economic stage?
There's more than one bully in the playground now.

Aug 14th 2008 1:02PM So true, so true. Furthermore, can you imagine how the Cuban athletes must fell competing in China. The USA blockades their country for being Communist etc, while they (USA) have their head stuck up the Chinese ASS.
The USA is not going to question the China link to Darfur, Not going to question China in Tibet, not going to question China's human rights record, or exploitation of disident Chinese, and list goes on.
The USA treatment of Cuba is Shameless!!!!!!!!!!!
Olympics: Spain and the height of cultural insensitivity {Gadling}
Aug 14th 2008 12:25PM Hey Big Doug
Your not suppose to provide a wakeup call. But, thanks for that! people really aren't attune to the world impact of China, YET. However, the 21st century will see the people of the world squeezed by the economic needs of China, India, Russia, USA and the developing countries that are seeing the sunrise and seek to be players on the world stage.

Aug 14th 2008 12:13PM "Karma bites, and it bites hard."
One of the most intelligent thigs I've read here. As the world seems hell bent on not heeding such a basic philosophy of caus and affect, we are all fated to learn it's profound truth.

Aug 14th 2008 12:07PM However, the terms are considered derogatory to the Mexican, Puerto Rican or any Latino that is confronted by a none latino. No consideration is givrn to the national origin of the offended person.
Too easy in the USA to over simplify issues. The problem when you lack, and are not encouraged to attain a WORLD view.

Aug 14th 2008 11:59AM To use the term African American is not a misnomer. It merely, and accurately, reflects that they are Americans of African origin. I have no problem wit American Negro, but would understand the sensitivity of the uninformed.
The fact that many African Americans made reference to themselves as Indians during WW11 (in England), is not surprising considering the discrimination experienced by many African American GI's. It would serve to note that many Afircan Americans can trace Native American ancestry in their families.
Personally, The photo, and the comments illustrate just how fucked up the world is at the beginning of the 21st century. A close look at current (world) events suggest (to me) that the HUMAN RACE is hell bent of self destruction. If one country isn't ragging another, then their ragging minorities within their nations. NO Exceptions!!!!!!!
I enjoy reading about other peoples/cultures, and enjoy even more when I meet someone that shares his/her HUMANITY. There is only one RACE, the HUMAN RACE. In the 21st century it will be made quite clear that, "the World has be come a village."
Real Deal on Dominican Hair Salons {Blackvoices Main}
Aug 3rd 2007 4:49PM My people, it should come as no surprise that Dominican Sisters can work some hair. We people of African descent (all) have issues, hair being just a major one.
I'm a Native New Yorker! My wife is Jamaican! We now live in SW Florida! I told her about the Dominican Salons back in NYC. Lets be honest family, the price got your attention, looking good sealed the deal. The wifey makes the trek back to La Gran Manzana (the Big Apple)to get her hair did. She was referred to a Dominican Sister in Fort Myers, but was less than pleased with the service. She won't go to Jamaicans.
I caution you all, as I cautioned the wife, don't generalise based on a bad experience (or good for that matter). Your still a consumer, so BEWARE. Ask people you trust to refer you, then give it a trial run. Don't be seduced by the price (I know it's hard). In the end it's quality for the price that your seeking. And, as some of the comments stated, the heat is damaging to your hair. Do your homework, its your hair.
Finally, in a global world it becomes necessary that we learn to navigate in social settings. Spanish is easy to learn, enough to survive. Your trusting someone with your "PRIDE AND JOY". I think it would wise to know how to inform someone that "It's to hot!"
Hey, from a brother that loves to see women when their on, YOUR A BEAUTY TO BEHOLD, IN ALL SHAPES, SIZES, AND FLAVORS (LICORICE, MOCHA, CAFE AU LAIT, CARAMEL, MILK CHOCALATE, VANILLA, ETC ETC ETC). Yes, I do miss New York! ONE lOVE
SMOKEY ROBINSON: Having A 'Dreamgirls' Nightmare {BV Newswire}
Jan 30th 2007 1:04PM It's amazing with all the literature on the film and music business, that Black folks are incapable, or reluctant to accept that WE are guilty of indescretions like anyone else. And this applies to how we treat each other. Black folks ripoff Black folks, true. Hey! We're family, and we can talk shop, but it's 2001(the 21st century) when will we learn that it's OK to agree to disagree. Maybe then we can tackle some of the relevant issues affecting our colective survival (more important the survival of the youth).
Smokey is Barry's boy, Diana is self absorbed, Aren't we capable of seeing and reading, then drawing conclusions based on objective analysis related to the facts at hand? I saw the original on Broadway show, loved it. I grew up on Motown, loved the Marvelettes, the Vandellas, Mary Wells, never liked the (hitless) Supremes. I can go on and on about the betrayal of Motown against the female groups, but the truth is he made a business decision that history bares out was a sound one.
However, we must not overlook that there is behind the scenes drama that plays out with that history. Diana became intimate with Barry! No big thang, sound career move on her part. James Brown said it best, "girl got to use what she got, to get just what she wants".
In closing, the story of the Dreamgirls could have been bits and pieces of any of the girl groups of the 50's and 60's. And remember, the cut throat nature of the business victimized most of the male & female groups (as well as the blues men and pioneers of R&R). The trials and tribulations of young artist (eg. EnVogue, Toni Baxton, etc) is the result of folks daydreaming and not reading (knowing their history, our story). As in any game one must be a student of the game, or risk be a PAWN in someone elses game (Black, White, or indifferent). Peace
