When a hand held transmitter is close to a receiving antenna a phenomenon Called "front end overload" can desensitize a receiver. The result of decreased sensitivity can possibly lead to missed communication. Lap tops also have transmitters on them (WIFI). So don't be a dip-wad. When the nice lady tells you to turn them off then do so and stop complaining.

Mar 3rd 2011 9:22AM DST as we know it today was implemented during WW2 so farmers would have extended daylight hours to raise crops for the war effort. Also the time zones were established due to problems with railroad time schedules. But that's another story.
