Feb 27th 2010 1:07PM Long ago, I was amazed to see these whales at Sea World.
But then one realized that these poor creatures were trained to entertain...a money amking tragedy. Many zoos have built wonderful natural habitats for animals that are not required to 'perform'. While I do not like to visit any zoo, it can be educational for those who never get to see animals in the wild like I do. Some species have been saved and returned to the wild (like Mongolian wild horses). But there is no excuse to train any wild animal to perform for entertainment and $$ gain. Many of us have struggled to get animals out of cages and into wonderful habitats that exhibit how they live, not to show off for our amusement. As many have said, whales and dolphins should not have to suffer such humiliation of performing unnatural 'stunts'!! If they have been born in captivity (unlike 'Tilly') they may need a proper space to live out their lives, but whales need to live free....their huge size demands a huge space that we can only supply temporarily at seaside. Can anyone observe one of these 'shows' without feeling rage at their plight?

Jan 21st 2007 5:32PM I was pegged a Mid-Venturer....which is quite accurate, but their suggestions for where to go missed the mark a bunch. I have already been to 62 countries, but always looking for new places.However, as a senior citizen, I will pass on all that trekking and rafting! I'm off to Patagonia next week and will be visiting the Gorillas this summer.......
