David Letterman and Sarah Palin Feud Grows {Politics Daily}
Jun 10th 2009 10:47PM Letterman is a one trick poney with less class than a fart in a whirlwind. His humor is weak, his interviewing skills marginal. I have no idea why CBS keeps this inept guy on the air other than they have no viable option. I think O'Brian is a poor replacement for Leno but he will continue to best Letterman in the ratings.
Growing Support for Total Ban on Cell Phones While Driving {Switched.com}
Jan 13th 2009 10:17PM Today's technology has given us the advantage of the cell phone and all its attached "goodies" for better or for worse. There are times when using a cell phone is necessary, for any number of reasons, while driving a vehicle. It is the irresponsible users who create the problems and those are the ones who should be made responsible for their actions. (I know this is a radical concept in this day and age. "You are responsible for what you do" Some would not even understand the logic of that statement.) There are hands free devices that make cell phone use less distracting. If someone causes an accident while using a cell toss his/her sorry butt in jail. Let those who use the technology with restraint and common sense alone.
Most debt negotiation agencies are scams {WalletPop}
Dec 4th 2008 10:28AM Anyone can call their credit card provider and negotiate a reduction in the total amount owed. This is providing you can remit the amount in full at the tile of settelment. Two things to know: 1) This will hit on your credit report and stay there for seven years. 2) The difference between the original and negotiated amounts will result in a W2 form being issued and reported to the IRS. [You owed $10,000, negotiated it down to $6,000 so $4,000 is reported as income.] If that would put you in a higher tax bracket you've gained nothing. You do not need a third party to get this done but, like most things in life, there are "gotchas" to consider.
Black Friday 2008 Liveblog: Wal-Mart worker trampled, lines light and other bad news to report {WalletPop}
Nov 28th 2008 5:12PM I'm also one of those folks on the other side of the counter, working part time at a major retail chain. If we are in a recession there was no sign of it at our location. Yes, people came in for the loss leaders (items for sale at or below cost to get you into the store) but they were also buying major items not offered at deep discounts or any discount at all. Sales tickets in excess of two and three hundred dollars were common. And, no, the store is not located in a high rent district. Just a typical semi-suburban area of a major US city.
Wright Reactions {Politics Daily}
Apr 29th 2008 10:33PM Obama can "disavow" Wright's comments all he wants, as he did today. Too late! This pretender to the White House sat in church for 20 years hearing this hate speach from the pulpit. What does that say about Obama's character? To me, plenty. This country does not need a far left, socialist leaning liberal as president. We don't need McCain or Hillary either but that's the choice we're left with. McCain wins as the lesser of three evils.
Airline Antics No. 2 {AOL Video Blog}
Jan 10th 2008 9:21PM Planes getting hit by lightning is nothing unsual. There is a loud "thump" sound that is more than unsetteling to passengers but only in rare cases is there any damage to the aircraft. The reason is simple: there is no grounding to complete the circut which would indeed cause a lot of damage. As can be seen in the vidio, the bolt hits the plane then rolls off into a cloud and continues to the ground. Which is where it wants to be, correcting the electrical inbalance caused by weather systems colliding with one another.
Jarrett to Replace Ousted Wallace in Booth {Fanhouse Motorsports Blog}
Oct 22nd 2007 4:32PM Rusty seems like a nice guy but he was way over his head in the broadcast booth. If you thought he was bad with NASCAR, anyone hear him doing IRL coverage? His work there was really sad.
ESPN Wants Oprah Winfrey in the Monday Night Football Booth {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Aug 13th 2007 12:27PM ESPN stands for the Entertainment and Sports Promotional Network. If their coverage (if you can call it that) of NASCAR is any indication they flunk on all four of those capital letters. Starting with miserable camera work and ending with inane pit reporters there's not much good you say about anything they do at a race. Maybe Dr. Jerry Punch could perscribe a cure, maybe not.
New Low for Bill O'? {News Bloggers}
Jun 4th 2007 11:48AM The Fox News slogan “Fair & Balanced” applies to their news coverage. Bill O’Rilley is a comentator and, as such, reports things as he sees them. Not from a pure reporter’s perspective. Fox is the only news source that tells all sides of a story. The liberal left does not care for that as they would much rather see only their viewpoints on TV and in print. So, in typical fashion, the left tries to smear Fox as biased. In reality it’s the only complete source to find out what’s really going on. The ratings prove the point. People are not as dumb as the left would like to believe.
3.5 million bags mishandled last year. Beat the odds. {Gadling}
Feb 6th 2007 2:29PM I flew on business about 3 of every 4 weeks for nearly 30 years. Almost always checked the bag and in that time I had exactly four cases of mis directed bags. (One of these was intentional done by an Eastern employee on strike.) Some tips I learned over the years: Name inside the bag a must, never use curb-side check in, be nice to the person checking you in, always check the receipt to make sure it reads the same as your ticket. If possible watch as the bags are loaded onto the plane, same for connecting flights. Avoid connecting flights if possible, really avoid more than one connection. If it looks like your bag is missing, go directly to the baggage office and treat the guy/gal at the counter with respect. (The line can get real long if you're not the only one and yelling with get you nothing except your bags about a mounth later if then.) Don't use designer address tags. Do use those provided by frequent flyer plans, even if you are not flying on that airline. Don't use the little paper tags available at the ticket counter, too easy for them to get torn off.
