Southwest apologies to deplaned mom {Gadling}

Nov 14th 2009 10:25PM What does it matter whether someone has kids? Travel is not an inherent right, and the airlines are private companies. Where does the right of a parent to take their kids with them supersede other passenger's right to have a quiet flight? I've had flight attendants refuse to take intervene with parents of a kid that wouldn't stop screaming after more than an hour, and such behavior is not acceptable.

If parents want to hear their own kids yell and cry for a 4 hour trip, they can take their private car.

There are lots of parents out there who take the time to prepare in advance to ensure that their kids are acclimatized to flying and have enough toys or other items with them to keep them busy.

I agree. Southwest did the right thing, and I wish more airlines would do it.

How Much Money Will You Get For Lost Luggage? {Gadling}

Mar 3rd 2007 2:54PM I'm just filling out the forms for my first such incident. I had a 2-leg flight from Europe to the US, with a transfer at JFK. After I took my bags from the baggage carousel at JFK, I dropped 2 bags off at the transit counter. Only one of them was waiting for me on the other end of the connecting flight.

The airline offered minimal assistance after losing my suits taken to a business conference (try to buy a dress shirt, tie, belt & sport coat in a major US city for $200), and my travel insurance offered nothing at all.

Most of my clothing was in my other suitcase, with this garment bag having only a few shirts and a couple of suits & accessories. This meant it was rather light. The fact is that my suits are rather expensive, and I think that the cost/weight issue is not going to work out in my favor as far as the airline factors compensation.

What REALLY bothers me is that throughout the week I was there, I got the real impression that nobody was responsible for searching for it. When I called, they just told me that it had not yet shown up at the destination airport. If found at the wrong airport, they told me that in many cases the staff who find it will not log that fact and will just dump it onto a departing plane in the hopes it will then somehow magically arrive again at the correct airport. It would be a good clue to the whereabouts if it were known that it had been found in Anchorage, yet the airline doesn't seem to agree.

Bottom line, I feel completely screwed.

Diver Timothy Hogan Sues Coast Guard {Divester}

May 11th 2006 9:26AM The article also says that he ignored symptoms for some time before surfacing. Even before that, he ignored back pain from a disc that he dislocated in the morning and continued to dive.

He's angry, but I'm sick and tired of people who think that they have the right to lash out at others for situations that they entered into knowingly.

If the Coast Guard hadn't rescued him, he may be dead. If he'd had other options available, he could have used them as well...but I doubt it. So he should be out thanking the CG for saving him, and accept ultimate responsability for his own carelessness for ignoring symptoms and putting a fish ahead of his health.

Confirmed, Unprovoked Shark Attacks {Divester}

Jul 27th 2005 11:14AM I recall that one of the recent US shark attacks involved someone standing in water with cut-up (bleeding) fish in his pockets to be used as fish bait. A shark took his leg off. So...he had bait in his pocket to be used to lure fish into eating it, and a fish came along and ate it. I'd call this provoked since the desired results occured. He just didn't plan on such a big fish.
