Illy confronts Starbucks with a low-cost indy strategy {Daily Finance}

Nov 4th 2009 9:17PM The Wall Street Journal got ridiculously lazy when they penned that article headline. Anybody who tries to sell coffee in this country is instantly labeled as "taking on Starbucks". It is as ludicrous as suggesting that anybody who sells beef in this country is taking on McDonald's.

Illy has stated for years that they would never sacrifice their quality controls for growth -- where Starbucks spectacularly self-imploded.

Worse, it seems this article actually took the WSJ's headline seriously.

How to Fill Up on Starbucks Wi-Fi (Even If You Don't Have an iPhone) {Switched.com}

Oct 22nd 2009 10:43AM Yawn. You could do this with any mobile phone for any coffee you wanted in Scandinavia years before Starbucks even thought of it .

Coffee, Seed to Cup, with the CoffeeMeister {Slashfood}

Aug 25th 2009 12:56PM Am I the only one that thought this most-basic-of-basic posts ("Coffee grows on bushes... really!") is a little insulting to reader intelligence?

It's as if Slashfood readers are expected to believe that food only comes out of cans and cellophane.

Well, if the intention was to drive away critical readers from visiting Slashfood anymore, I suppose the strategy is working...

Cool Coffee Ice Cubes - Feast Your Eyes {Slashfood}

Aug 18th 2009 12:24PM Er, what is it with this site equating everyone who likes coffee to "caffeine addicts"? Honest -- you don't call your wine enthusiasts "alcholics". What gives?

To illustrate the point, caffeine addicts have plenty of cold options... and not just cold filtered coffee. Monster drinks, colas, etc., are all immensely loaded with caffeine and are typically served cold. Making this an article about options for "caffeine addicts," rather than coffee fanatics, only dilutes your article.

As coffee shops cut the cord, are they cutting their own throats? {Daily Finance}

Aug 7th 2009 2:31PM This has been going on for a decade on the West Coast. Someone unplugs a laptop in New York, and suddenly it's urgent news.

Investors cheer the newer, 'leaner' Starbucks {BloggingStocks}

Aug 4th 2009 4:57PM I'm kind of lost. For the past several years, Starbucks has lamented their demise from an artisan coffee shop to a mass-produced commodity that has positioned itself against McDonald's instead of high-quality local shops.

So their response is to find greater efficiencies to automate the production of sub-par coffee?

Affogatos with the CoffeeMeister {Slashfood}

Aug 4th 2009 4:11PM IMO, when coffee starts to have recipes -- it's no longer coffee anymore.

Too Much Caffeine with the CoffeeMeister {Slashfood}

Jul 30th 2009 1:26PM I find it funny that people freak out over caffeine more than they do about alcohol these days.
