Best Buy advertising higher than regular prices as sales? {Engadget}

May 24th 2010 3:08PM This isn't news - Staples and Office Depot are NOTORIOUS for doing this crap (i.e. an item has MSRP of $199 and then say regular price = $249 and "on sale" for $199).

Legally speaking, this is completely allowed (MSRP = *recommended* price, not mandatory price).

But I choose to shop elsewhere out of pure anger and distrust.

RIM's BlackBerry Bold slider with OS 6 does a little dance, gets down tonight (video) {Engadget}

FAIL.

Apple under preliminary antitrust investigation over iPhone, triggered by complaint from Adobe {Engadget}

May 4th 2010 3:54PM 1. Adobe is a whiny little bitch.

2. Adobe is a hypocrite.

3. Product success does not equate to monopoly or anti-competitive behavior.

4. This is why the USA is a F@CKED_COUNTRY.

Apple under preliminary antitrust investigation over iPhone, triggered by complaint from Adobe {Engadget}

May 4th 2010 3:52PM @victor and @Mrwirez and other anti-Apple folks:

Apple is *not* a monopoly.

Don't like/want a Mac? Buy a PC or Unix machine.

Don't like/want an iPhone? May I interest you in a BlackBerry, Android phone, Motorola device, Nokia S60 device, Palm Pre, etc?

Want to code Flash? How about Photoshop? Illustrator? For all three, you need to USE ADOBE PRODUCTS.

This is all as stupid as Microsoft suing the Eclipse Project for anti-competitive practices.

So who is the "monopoly" and acting anti-competitive? Adobe.

Apple to face antitrust inquiry over iPhone coding restrictions? {Engadget}

Echoing Tom Sawyer's comments, your post looks like a well-written piece by a complete amateur. Attend a business school class and understand (for one) why Enron was in trouble long before their collapse, and how you can't compare the two - and academics knew it.

Apple, on the other hand, is used as a case study in advanced finance, accounting, marketing/brand management, ISOM, and strategy classes.

They have done everything right since their low period experienced in the 1990s.

Back to advanced finance - if you truly think that they are "doing something wrong", learn about options strategies and play those.

Apple believes in itself and has financed the iPad (among other programs) for pennies on the dollar. While you whine and call foul, they continue to bankroll cash (building a "fortress balance sheet").

[on Apple vs. Adobe]
Finally, I'm by no means a "Mac" or "Apple" bigot - I've actually hated MacOS ever since my PowerBook 165c days. However, their stand versus Adobe is completely valid. You don't like the iPhone? Buy a frigging Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Android, or whatever the hell you want. Oh, and I forgot that the way you code Flash is USING ADOBE PRODUCTS. That's not a "closed system" or "monopoly" ? Come on. What is Corel's 2010 market share?

[on the Federal Government/FTC/SEC/whatever]
We're wasting millions on crap like this while (a) SEC employees who watched porn got off scot-free, and (b) our country continues to get steamrolled by nations who actually focus on furthering themselves (see: China).

In Defense of Deadbeat Dads {Asylum}

Jul 8th 2009 1:37PM This is absolutely reprehensible.

As a child of a single-parent home (since my father was [is] a compulsive gambler and self-proclaimed alcoholic), there is absolutely something missing.

And it wasn't the "ever-rotating roster of gentleman" buying cigarettes or leaving porn passwords on computers.

That is against the law, you complete f-ing moron.

If this is supposed to be funny, it is not.

If you think it is funny, I hope you contract AIDS or get hit by a bus - soon.

The Palm Pre {Engadget}

Jan 8th 2009 2:46PM Wow - this is what Palm has come to.

They were a leader with the Pilot and PalmPilot.

While they lost some of their lustre, they gained it back with the Treo 600/650.

Look at them now. What does this do that everything else doesn't already do... better?

MLB 09 supports Rock Band mic, headsets for heckling {Joystiq}

Dec 19th 2008 3:13PM Who cares - computer and console baseball games are fun for about one day. Then you realize how stupid of a game baseball is to simulate.

Maybe they should introduce the "how to pay Dominicans $14 million while I struggle to make rent in a shitty economy" feature.
