Hyundai develops high-performance diesel R-Engine {Autoblog}

Nov 4th 2008 2:33PM Plastic intake manifold, eh? I just hope they get it right, unlike GM's attempt at it in the late 90s.

Skybus, First Hand Account: Checking-In {Gadling}

Sep 5th 2007 12:07PM That's what the trip insurance is for!

Buy a VW Rabbit, get a bike... if you live in Chicago {Autoblog}

Jun 6th 2007 11:50AM This is perfect. The dealer won't have to give you a loaner when you take your car into the shop. Knowing VW's reputation, you might be biking a lot!

Whiplash a serious problem with many vehicles, says IIHS {Autoblog}

Apr 6th 2007 9:10PM I look at it this way. If some vehicles can do well even if the test seems unfair, then I don't see why the others can't do well either.

Related to this, look at the recent testing Consumer Reports did with infant car seats. Two of the models actually did pretty well even though they were tested at a speed twice as high as what CR intended. Those models would be on my shopping list if I had a baby and needed to get a car seat!

Toyota says it won't increase warranty coverage {Autoblog}

Feb 19th 2007 3:06PM You want a Toyota with longer warranty coverage? They already offer a longer powertrain warranty on their "certified" used vehicles (7 years/100K miles). GM should be the one matching this on its certified used cars, as 5 years/100K miles doesn't cut it when buying a car that's 4 (going on 5) years old to begin with.

Consumer Reports names pair to review child seat tests {Autoblog}

Feb 14th 2007 10:42PM Actually, CR would probably threaten legal action if they tried to mention their ratings in their ads.

See http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/aboutus/adviolation/ for more info.

Buick LaCrosse shamed with one-star crash performance, receives tweaks {Autoblog}

Feb 14th 2007 10:32AM I think I know why the 05 LaCrosse did better in the side impact test -- the HIC (head injury criterion) was not used in coming up with the rating for the driver. Look at http://www.safercar.gov/NCAP/Cars/3053.html for the 05 model and then compare it with http://www.safercar.gov/NCAP/Cars/3937.html for the 07.

Detroit Auto Show: 2008 Ford Focus {Autoblog}

Jan 7th 2007 11:44PM Not a bad effort! Considering this platform is getting close to a decade old, Ford did a nice job of making it look new.

Maybe it's just me, but the way the hood curves by the headlights reminds me of the Contour/Mystique.

The interior is a big improvement over the last freshening, although the brushed metal look is a bit overdone. I guess that's a "bold move", right? :)

Bottom up? - Ford rolls out a grass-roots effort {Autoblog}

Dec 27th 2006 1:19PM I thought I included the URL where you can read Consumers Union's policy, but I guess it didn't come through with my original post. So, here goes...

Bottom up? - Ford rolls out a grass-roots effort {Autoblog}

Dec 27th 2006 1:18PM Ford might be violating Consumers Union's "No Commercial Use Policy" by mentioning the reliability ratings Consumer Reports gave to the Fusion and Milan.
