Thinning Hair: What Causes It, Plus a New Line That Treats It {Stylelist}
Oct 7th 2010 5:29PM I am 64 and wore my hair hippy style in a long braid down my back from the late 70s until last August when I decided to go for a whole new look. There were several factors involved in that decision, but I'm sure I'm not the only woman out here who found it more and more difficult to take care of long hair as my shoulders got more and more arthritic over the years. I'm blessed with very curly hair, although it is both thin and fine, and it really does look its best cut very short. The added advantage to the short 'butch' cut is that I can wash it in the shower, towel it dry, mess it up with my hands to get the wind-blown look, and I'm ready to go. Beats the heck out of a 45 minute ordeal shampooing, conditioning, drying, trimming split ends, brushing out and braiding almost two feet of hair every day.
No Jobs, No Housing, No Bull {Housingwatch}
Dec 13th 2009 3:42PM My husband is an attorney workout specialist working with banks in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area and I can assure you that a huge factor in the stagnant real estate picture is the fact that banks just aren't lending. It's not that they don't want to, but the Feds are requiring so much reserve to be held liquid that they don't have the cash available to finance anything from small businesses to commercial and residential construction. This recession is fully under the hidden control of Big Brother and it is marching steadily into an even worse condition than the one we're in already.
Holiday spirit: Honest Cracker Barrel customer returns nearly $100,000 {WalletPop}
Dec 12th 2008 1:55PM It is common to see $1,000 bills involved in real estate transactions that are conducted in cash, which is often the case when a seller is about to leave the area and doesn't have a new bank established where s/he can deposit a cashier's check in order to access the proceeds of the sale.
Jennifer Hudson - Gap ad star {Stylelist}
Nov 15th 2008 8:50PM Thanks for your responses, which indicate that there is at least one source out there somewhere reporting that Jennifer Hudson's family refused to move out of Englewood. I'm not sure how reliable that source is, since I live in Chicago and watched the reporting on this story very closely, but I never heard a word on local news or in interviews with Jennifer and her relatives about the family refusing to move.
In fact, my husband grew up on the South Side [103rd and State] and there have been several cops in his family, all serving in the Englewood District, but none of them have ever met anybody who would not leave that area if they had a chance to do so. It's true that this crime was a matter of 'being in the wrong place', but the fact is that everywhere in Englewood is 'the wrong place' and I find it very hard to believe that anyone tried all that hard to get those folks out of there and into a safer neighborhood.
Jennifer Hudson - Gap ad star {Stylelist}
Nov 15th 2008 2:21PM I'm sad for Jennifer, too, but I can't understand why anyone with her kind of money had family living in the path of certain danger to begin with. The Englewood district on Chicago's south side is easily the most dangerous patch of real estate in the entire upper midwest and the location of most of the deaths that give Chicago the dubious distinction of being the current murder capital of the United Sttates.
Baby born 15x's over legal limit {ParentDish}
Jun 11th 2008 8:42PM You have to know that any woman who would get that drunk when she is not only pregnant but moving up on her due date, at that, is a woman who has been drinking all the way through that pregnancy. As a consequence, that poor child is essentially guaranteed to be a victim of fetal alcohol syndrome, which will interfere with her ability to learn, to form normal relationships and to maintain emotional stability for the rest of her life. Women who drink steadily when they're pregnant brutally abuse their children from their very conception, and I sincerely believe that they should not be permitted to retain custody of the children born to them with elevated blood alcohol levels. Believe it or not, there are many families who are willing to foster and/or adopt those children in order to give them the best chance in life that is possible for them, and I am greatly blessed to have some of them in my life. The ability to conceive and carry to term does not make a woman a mother, and it is high time 'the system' recognized that so that more of these pre-abused babies can be rescued at birth from their drug and/or alcohol addicted mothers. There is no reason in the world that an effective recovery program could not be put into place in the prisons their mothers end up in, and that would give the mothers a fair chance to get their act together and prove they are capable of being a decent mother within a limited time. If not, they simply lose custody of their child, permanently, in order to prevent even further harm to these kids at the hands of a highly dysfunctional parent.

Giuliani, McCain Land Big Endorsements {Politics Daily}
Nov 7th 2007 12:23PM I understand what you're saying, rep, but what party will you switch your affiliation to? I'm not a Republican, I'm a constitutional conservative, but Rudy is starting to look like the only option that will be available next Fall. As an evangelical Christian, I'm not wild about some of his social issue positions, but with Fred Thompson fading fast Rudy's starting to look like the only game in town, especially if he chooses Mike Huckabee for his vice-presidential candidate.
