Castro Countdown Pool: Guess When He'll Croak, Win Prize! {Gadling}

Jan 22nd 2007 12:52PM Also remember that the first w in www. IE: WORLD. We're not all Americans. It says traveler's weblog not American weblog.

There is nothing political about starting a pool on how long it takes an old man to die. It's sick. Whatever you think of his politics.

You want to discuss the possibilities of travel from the USA to Cuba after Castro? Go ahead, do it. But that wasn't even close to what you did.

It's not political. It's just badly informed and totally out of place.

Castro Countdown Pool: Guess When He'll Croak, Win Prize! {Gadling}

Jan 22nd 2007 11:36AM Agreed with the last commentator,even though I have a hunch we are coming at this from different viewpoints. Have some respect. This a travel website. Let it go. You're embarrassing the site and you obviously have not a clue what you are on about.

Portable Ice Cubes {Gadling}

Jan 18th 2007 10:38PM I think the day I feel the need to take my own ice cubes on holiday is the day when I realise it's all not worth the bother. Utterly tragic. File that with the travel shower head.

I work for a hospitality training program in Hanoi, Vietnam (www.koto.com.au) and at our training restaurant we get a lot of tourists who insist on no ice.

For the record, no one drinks the water here. Not even locals and that includes ice too. Nobody makes ice with anything other than bottled or filtered water. It's all good. Drink the drink. Have the ice.

You know what? Occasionally you will have an upset tummy and have to make a dash for the bathroom but in two years here I have suffered nothing worse than that.

Oh and when I went home to the UK over Christmas I had a bad tummy there. It's the change that's all - its not always down to bad water or hygiene.

China Sticks {Gadling}

Dec 18th 2006 1:20PM If you spent your time worrying about things being a little unhygienic then you'd never do anything in Vietnam. Better to just throw caution to the wind and dive in.

So far, minor tummy upsets aside, I've been fine.

The Lonely Planet also says you don't need to bring anything with you and you can buy it all cheaply here.

It fails to add... if you are Asian sized.

Currently home for Xmas in the UK, stocking up on shoes, trousers, t-shirts etc. If I'd listened to the Lonely Planet I would have had to resort to wearing sacking and going bare foot.

China Sticks {Gadling}

Dec 17th 2006 8:59PM are you serious? As someone who has lived in Vietnam for two years I would die of embarrassment on behalf of any foreigner who thought the local chopsticks weren't up to scratch and bought their own.

What's good enough for several billion Chinese is not good enough for you?

My own travel tip. Number one rule: don't offend your host nation by suggesting their cutlery isn't up to the job and bringing your own.
